we need to be closing points of entry in every country to and from China, period, and for some even border closings

full stop

I wish someone in charge (Japan) would read and obey your post. Its crazy here. By ferry, tour boat and airplane.
Keep in mind we have cargo ships with crews on them and yes, they get off ship and go shopping also. I live in a port city so this is real. Are they being checked for diseases? Have no idea.

and here..

We're still allowing flights daily from multiple Chinese cities into Australia.
Its been shown that 20% of people dont show fever - so temperature checking DOESN'T WORK
We're handing out pamphlets telling people what the signs are.

madness.

in a poll of around 10,000 people... there's a massive 93% who say shut the border.

Yet, Australia's leaders refuse to. We're addicted to Chinese $$$ and we will sacrifice Australia's security for them

We also have the same problem here. Many businesses are very dependent these days on the the Chinese. We are no seeing up to 80% of some of the businesses owners are going to start asking the govt. for assistance (financial). The hotels as I mentioned in an earlier thread really don't know what to do the futons. I wonder how it is in Australia and the States concerning Chinese and the hotels. Remember many Chinese have this dry Asian cough also. To prove my point, go to any international airport and see how many are coughing. And this has nothing to due with this corona stuff either. One reason I really hate to eat at Chinese restaurants is that I know they cough and don't cover up their mouths. Philippinos also have this dry Asian cough.

I started this thread on Jan 24 - 869 confirmed cases - 26 deaths

Its now Jan 31 - 9,822 confirmed cases - 213 deaths

and no one believes those numbers are remotely accurate.

Also, I have always read that when there is news they are trying to distract the public from, that agencies will wait until Friday's in the U.S. to feed it to the MSM. Just wondering if that is what the CDC is doing. How many days does it take to process those tests, it been 5+ days in some cases already, unless they are testing them twice.

(I'm new to posting on here, and using the quote marks. My apologies if it appears incorrectly.)

You're doing good!

It looks like there's a lot of speculation the impeachment vote and end will come tomorrow, which would seem oddly convenient and provide the country's news machine with plenty of distractions. I'm still fixating on the 15 days at the beginning of January when China stayed stuck at 41 cases only to start reporting exponential growth of cases on Jan 17th. Based on that, it wouldn't surprise me for the US to hold the "there is no major issue here, what virus?" line until next Friday.

I'm sorry, I somehow put my reply to wrong post. It was supposed to be on the one about IL and the 21 people they are watching.

I've never been on a cruise ship, but I've been on fishing boats. The idea of being at sea while sick with anything is hellish. I can't imagine having a severe flu and being on the ocean.

I think cruise ships are large enough that you feel the sea's motion less. But hearing about the Italian cruise ship today made me flash back to the first season of Last Ship when they have to refuel and basically cannibalize an Italian cruise ship for food and fuel. It was basically a floating morgue by that point. Some grim scenes.

I couldn't imagine being stuck on a ship like that crowded in with a bunch of others who are getting sick and dying.

Also found out via a friend with means to know that 92 cases are being isolated and tested in Arizona this afternoon. Seems that lids are clamped down tight of this in US.

Do you happen to know where in Arizona? I live in AZ and have been following this virus since before the start of this thread. Still unsure of what to do. With that many this close to home, I am a little more concerned now. Although, I live in the boonies.

Kids not being as bad off might underscore that some of the problem the Chinese are having with this relates back to their poor air quality in general. Children will not have had as long a time to have been breathing that crap they call air over there.

It could be that the years of breathing smog and hyper air pollution have degraded their lungs enough that it has weakened them and made them more or less like a nation of smokers confronting bronchitis and pneumonia which is always worse for them.

And perhaps, just maybe ... those of us nations with better air quality will see better outcomes.

Try to carry out shopping errands as little as possible and at times when others are not likely to. Helps you avoid contact.

Because I can't stand crowds I grocery shop at 6am when the stores open. There's hardly anyone there.

I did not know that, it makes sense, the article said quite a few had direct exposure. Some of the videos of those markets, I can’t imagine.

What gets me is the cough and then some of their other symptoms. It’s one of those coughs where you just keep coughing like with bronchitis. Many said they were light headed which either means they’re altered mental status from low oxygen or they have those nasty coughing attacks where you get dizzy and feel like you’re going to pass out.

No wonder it’s spreading like crazy, you can’t stop coughing. A higher number than I expected also started going into respiratory failure. There was a low incidence of lung disease like COPD but if they had bad tissue that couldn’t transfer oxygen from repeated infections or a nasty environment, that could be missed.

That was a good find, they had great data.

Communist Party chief in #Wuhan said that since mid-January, Wuhan can only test "about 300" people a day for the virus. Number of new Wuhan cases reported today: 378.

yeah, that doesnt fill me with any kind of joy.

We go on Sunday mornings when most are in church.

We also figured that if it lives on surfaces, we'd wipe down things we brought in with lysol and/or bleach solution. I am trusting my husband on this point since he's worked in microbiology labs with some pretty crappy stuff for a good chunk of his career.

Honestly, we're hoping it doesn't get to that point and that we'll be able to hunker in place without needing to go out if it does.
