Again, I appreciate your reply. I have spent limited time overseas and am not familiar with Wechat though understand from other posters that this is a key source for information from China.

Please keep me/us posted on any new videos of this nature so that they can be archived/saved in the coming days.

Scary stuff.

Not sure, are there international rules?
Afterall, they'd be using Chinese airspace, airports, roads etc...

I'd hope there's some kinda of international agreement that in certain times evacuations are allowed or denied.

Has anyone found a reason yet why the US Evacuation plane rerouted last minute to March AFB?

(CNN)US health officials will not institute a blanket quarantine for about 200 Americans who landed at a California military base Wednesday after being evacuated from Wuhan, the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China.

Several passengers said they would stay at the base volutarily, said Dr. Chris Braden, deputy director for the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

this just stinks of a coordinated media release.. who wants to stay in quarantine at a AFB instead of quarantine at home/hospital?
Also, there's a spelling mistake in CNN's article ''volutarily'' - that makes me suspicous

WHO F'd up!

World Health Organization Chief Blames ‘Human Error’ on Calling Coronavirus Threat ‘Moderate’

“WHO deeply regrets the error in this week’s situation report, which inserted the word ‘moderate’ inaccurately in the #coronavirus global risk assessment,” Ghebreyesus wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “This was a human error in preparing the report. I have repeatedly stated the high risk of the outbreak.”

Guess it would be too much to ask them to proofread statements, that would be read by multi-millions, and affect nations in their preparedness ?

As far as im aware, other countries cant keep you from evacuating their own citizens, I think they have to provide safe airspace to do so

I am just speculating here, but it seems like to me as more time that goes by, the more data is collected, this then turns to more "precautions" being taken.

Seems a little obvious, but not really. I am not trying to be a smart a$$, just trying to take a rational approach to as why the timeline and government actions are interacting the way they are.

It seems like "they" are not liking the numbers and possibilities that could be shaking out.

I am two steps from going all out on supplies for the bug in event. I have already been acquiring small bits and pieces to help us stay inside for a while.

You're probably on the money - no government should take a risk and take action for worse possible scenario.

Every day twice i day i walk to my shops and eye ball canned food and water.
As soon as those shelves start getting empty im buying.

In Australia we have a huge chinese population because we're so close and have lax visa's

My thinking is, the 50million quarantined people in china are communicating with all their friends and family around the world telling them whats actually going on. So the chinese are very quietly going to the shops and getting supplies.

Meanwhile, clueless Australians walk around laughing and vaping and standing in line at cafe's with 30ppl all within 1m distance.

The Virus is about 100nm in size. Will go right through that type of mask like it wasn't even there.
But, those masks are cheap cost so can't hurt.
It may give you some (luck) protection if someone infected spits/sneezes on you assuming a virus particle misses your eyes. You're more prone to catching it by your hands touching face, mouth, rubbing eyes. Wash hands often and lysol the hell out of your environment.

So youre saying it wouldnt work for those sneezing and coughing, or nott cut down on it by the wearer if they are infected?

The mask will help reduce the spread sometimes but if you're within 6 feet of being sneezed/coughed on by someone infected wearing a mask or not than you become infected. Doesn't necessarily mean you'll get sick but the rest is up to your immune defense going to war.

Hope they find the 20 or so shoppers no doubt lost in the catacombs of each store before they lock up for the closure period.

I stopped at the local dollar store on the way home yesterday. I had to get a few things and I stopped at the medical aisle and picked up some bandages, antibacterial ointment, and the only two boxes of surgical masks they had. I figure that even if the masks don't work that well, they can be used to barter other goods if the supply runs out, which seems to be happening in various areas.

I'm trying to stay at least one step ahead and not wait until the shelves start to run dry. That way when the real stampede happens I can be at the house with the family and not worried about it.

Per the Vienna Convention, foreign Consular has to be notified, but the host country can refuse to release the individuals to their country of origin, at that point they are considered foreign prisoners as far as treatment and human rights expectations go.

Not a mistake, they want this to spread. Done deliberately so their baby has enough chance to spread to all countries undetected. Now we have carriers in all continents walking around without symptoms spreading this to 1000s more. How many people can you infect in 14 days walking around during normal daily life? a reply to: IAMTAT

Thanks Doc, appreciate your reply.

Bed occupancy rates don't show much slack. Of course, seen as a business model, that makes sense. But not a good resource to handle an epidemic that requires many to get hospitalized.

Cheers

Some people trying to find masks that are out will forget welding departments/shops have the better more expensive ones like this.

7 days in Melbourne. Then stayed at peppers resort gold coast. Wasn't there earlier posts how this virus stays alive for many hours on a surface. Did that guy touch the ground floor button in the elevator. What about the two you nurses who transported him in very limited safety gear. How many people did this guy come in contact with in 7 days in Melbourne. If all stories are true, this is going to be everywhere. reply to: myselfaswell

Considering what the Chinese are reported to be doing, imagine what they're actually doing. Consider all of the corporations and airlines that have pulled up stumps. Then consider the busted ass reaction here, I mean seriously.

The current response would suggest that even the slightest risk assessment hasn't been undertaken.

So yes, I suspect this thing is going to be everywhere, eventually.
