You’ve covered it very succinctly. Well done.

I’d add that anyone who believes the numbers coming out of China about any part of this save exact perfect science which is duplicated by other scientists outside China, are not only blindly trusting an authoritarian human rights abusing regime but better have their wish come true and all the rest of us are totally wrong including all the experts around the world. Their life may well depend on it.

I think you are overreacting.

There is just one thing I don't understand about the idea that officials aren't telling the truth about the severity of the outbreak.

I understand the cynicism and thinking officials and governments lie all the time; it sure looks like they do and it usually revolves around them making some kinda money.

But with this type of issue, deadly world pandemic, its hard to believe the normal shenanigans would apply. A various doesn't care about your economic status, especially a deadly world pandemic, and you can't enjoy your money and power if your dead.

So what is the incentive for our world leaders to down play the severity of a pandemic ... and than ultimately make it even worse? A few more days in power as the world crumbles around them? It seems more logical that they would have an incentive to beat the various and exploit us for many years to come in the more traditional ways.

it's not a big deal... they want the world to end.. their desire for the world to end is more important than the obvious truth

I think certain people need to calm down. You didn’t see me come unglued when some of my posts were challenged. I don’t want to go down the mud pit road.

I’m more emotionally attached to this issue because I have family and friends in China and I think I’ve done well to stay above personal attacks. I hope others can as well.

We are doing great in bringing back the old ATS vibe before 2016 US election happened.

China obviously downplayed the flu early on, but they did take unprecedented steps when they began locking down whole cities. It certainly seems like western society is downplaying the the sickness currently. Although china is most likely under reporting now, it may be more due to the fact that their medical system is completely overwhelmed and their resources are being used as vigilantly as possible

A few days more in control of as much as they can hold control of. I believe in a lot of cases we are one twist of fate away from total disaster anyway... the government tends to lie or obscure those disasters in hopes they don't end up worst case scenarios and, in most cases, they don't so the government dodges a drama bullet by having downplayed it from the start.

Systematically the Chinese system of governance is built on the lie that the CCP and thus the state can continuously improve everything in China.

The people at the bottom are incentivized to report “right” numbers to the higher ups. Right meaning correct to the leaderships view on things.

Face plays a big role in Chinese society, one does not want to appear weak or a failure.

That’s the short version.

So this morning they apparently flew in 200 evacuated Americans from Wuhan, on a 747 and are going to military quarantine them ni California.

Did anyone see this on the news?

That model also saves the higher ups when they happen to get busted open and people start to see they were lied to. The underling who provided the "right" numbers is called upon to save face and fall upon their sword... while, had they provided the correct but undesired numbers in the first place, they'd have been left to rot in some Chinese hellhole political prison or killed outright. Damned if you do, damned if you don't and such is life in a socialist nation ruled by the party.

What i find more interesting is how youre on every single thread about this virus, saying its "no big deal"

When absolutely every single shred of evidence says otherwise.

Whats it like to have that level of cognitive dissonance?

Repeat that line all you want, the rest of us are going to go off of the actual facts.

No, he's not.

A person with his/her/suitable gender pronoun's analytical abilities should be held up and shown respect! How dare any mortal pests question the merit of what they've contributed. I think it boils down to the fact that us jesters and dolts just have not the mental capacity to understand this person's altruistic alms of knowledge.

With his bequeath, were truly doomed and rather foolish.

In other news, I haven't been following closely today, are there still no deaths in places other than China? Also the short research I've done on WHO, presents a less than flattering picture.

This thread and my job are the only two places that I would trust with information right now.

At work, the "flu" has been elevated to a "concern" and should be something we are all aware of.

Now why would they say that if it's a giant "nothing burger"?

And so many members offering a great global view of things that the media here (US) won't report.

So thank you everyone, keep it up.

They were in denial for awhile when the disease first broke out. That article posted earlier from the New England Journal of Medicine heavily hinted at it. They kept giving 3 day treatments of antibiotics as their primary treatment protocol for the pneumonia, that should’ve changed more quickly. There were delays in hospital admissions, not on the patients part but because they were reacting to the incidents not changing protocols like they should have been. Somebody has their healthcare system on a leash.

Even though it seems to have good data about the initial outbreak, scroll down to the references and there are quite a few funding and government citations. No data included in the sets after about the second week of January. They do acknowledge they can’t use that data yet because it’s not complete but who knows.

Its mind boggling..

China has for years refused Taiwan to be involved in diseases with the WHO.

Taiwan have requested multiple times to be a part of the investigation into this virus, but China denies their requests.

foreignpolicy.com...

But Taiwan is no longer able to attend the World Health Assembly, WHO’s annual policy meeting. China has prevented Taiwan from attending since 2016, after President Tsai Ing-wen was elected for the first time. Since her election, Beijing has stepped up its existing military and economic pressure on Taiwan, viewing Tsai’s pro-sovereignty status as a veil for Taiwanese independence.

madness...

Every single person i know that works at hospitals, assisted livings, or anywhere that deals with large groups of people, got a memo on Monday about the concern over it. And to remain vigilant and take precautions

There was a weird gap from January 2 to January 19 with scarcely a single new case and only the initial death on the 9th or 11th (sources seem to differ on which day it was). I dunno, add it to the coincidence/smells fishy list.

Multiple emails about restricting travel to China, PPE at work, never, ever, ever go into isolation areas unless vetted and trained.

Yeah, hospitals are taking this very seriously.
