Just heard mcConnell advise senators that they have a special meeting tomorrow at 10:30am tomorrow regarding this virus. Guess we will find out eventually whether they will be doomsaying or alleviating worries about this virus in the US.

What they need to do is be honest about it.

Lack of information feeds fear. People fill in the blanks for themselves and create something worse than what's really going on. During Spanish Flu, people who were sick but may have recovered actually starved to death because their neighbors were too afraid to take them the food and supplies that would have saved their lives.

We see this going on in this forum right now.

Don't get me wrong the flu is no joke, nor i imagine is the coronavirus variant or whatever it is.

Certainly will feel like you are dying, even if you don't, which is always a possibility.

I heard some speculation as to its begins from infected snake blood at the wet market that made the jump/mutation to humans.

Don’t care. Not going to debate you. Feel sorry for you actually.

In 1918 there was no internet or communication world wide ... I know shocker to you. Here is another shocker to you... in 1918 viruses had only been discovered for 26 years and were not understood well.

Denial is just a river in Egypt.

A man I look up to... one of the most prestigious virologists in the HISTORY of mankind said this

crofsblogs.typepad.com...

Denial. It’s a long river of death to ancient pharaohs

There were also a hell of lot more slums, widespread poverty, overcrowding, nevermind a lack of proper medical care and knowledge, that contributed to the mortality rates involved with the Spanish flue of 1918-1919.

Well, not a hell of a lot more........but more, you get the gist im sure.

Then again the fact that we can move both Man and goods around the globe in a mere matter of days or even hours will also help contribute to the spread of the coronavirus.

Double-edged sword i suppose in some respects, but that progress for you.

I know fear is like a drug to most of you, but, to the casual observer, it's the same few here who panic about everything that are the most vocal.
Years go by, and everything is a disaster.

It's sad. But, no, this one is the one. I'm sure.

Yes, and during that same epidemic, people were being moved on a mass scale thanks to WWI in a way that rivals what we do today. In fact, many of our largest mass transit rail stations were built for the two World Wars to expedite troop movements, and it was along those routes the Spanish Flu moved and quite efficiently much like this will move with air travel.

Think a little.

This first began to be reported in the press, meaning it was a notable problem, in December - December 22. That means it was beginning to circulate before that. If it has an incubation between 3 and 14 days, then we're almost four weeks out from the first reports, not the first cases.

It's had a few infectious cycles since then, and it had a few before that. This would already be all over the world, not just starting to show up in other places. At the very least, there would be more university students showing signs, and they study all over the world.

That's why I believe it when they say it's not as infectious as common cold or measles. The magnitude of the problem would be larger and it would be less contained to China. As it is, it seems to take a bit more contact than just casual sneezing or coughing in a one-off, perhaps some repeated exposure.

But as it is, we don't really know. It's all still guess work. Even that doctor you love scaring us with can only say what he's allowed to.

WHO said it’s more virulent than Spanish Flu.

https://www.zerohedge.com/

It was in US last week. It was too late when China sounded the alarm.

For the one who asked earlier in thread - The Chinese govt or CCP because they are the same is totally incapable of telling the truth. At all. Ever. Their system is so fundamentally flawed even if the top level people were honest, and they aren’t, the low level people are incentivized to lie to save their neck.

As I said in other threads, any bad news involving numbers from China is always wrong by 50-200%.

I'm not worried that the Texans will be devestated. Maybe they need a big BBQ party down there to protect them from the doom and gloom porn being fed to us. Maybe those on immune suppressent meds should not go to the BBQs though, I doubt if beer or booze kills a virus.

Also, maybe it isn't a good idea to invite the guy with that coronovirus to be cooking the ribs and steaks.

He is a Texas A&M student and has mild symptoms so he is being isolated at home. Hopefully, his friends won't be inviting him everywhere to all our awesome parties. (Everything is big in Texas!)

We should find out tonight whether he has the coronavirus or not. If so, then they will be tracking down all the people he came in contact with and which airport he flew into. Could be Houston, could be Dallas.

We just had a 20 year old student die of the flu who had traveled overseas to Israel. Anyone know anything about that? She was very healthy, according to her parents. Any suspected cases in Israel?

Worry about them what, existing?

Or spreading the disease about in just about every Health Center and General Practitioners in the land?

This virus somewhat transcends our immigration dilemma and is communicable by all humans.

Cracker. LoL

But a roll of gray duct tape, some hoses, socks, and a piece of bungee cord, in this instance, is just as apt to bring on indigestion rather than cure the flu.

People in other necks of the woods have immunity to things that we do not have immunity to. She could have come into some microbes of some sort in Israel and it depleted her immune system of it's power as it was fighting them, she may just have felt worn out a little and had a mild reaction. People can carry microbes and live symbiotically with them like nurses in our hospitals here often having C-diff living symbiotically with them. Then they transmit the disease to the patients.

She may have been immune depleted from her trip then got in contact with the flu here and it triggered a bad reaction. Cytokine storms from flu can kill some people when they get the flu, but they also weaken the person because of the damage our own immune system throws at the infection which can make them susceptible to bacterial or other microbial infections. The flu itself rarely kills people, our own immune system being overactive or depleted usually is what kills them. Getting pnemonia after fighting the flu is definitely a possibility, or back to back viruses of different kinds is also a problem.

I can't take the flu shot because it causes a storm, but even though I have strong immunity which kills the virus quickly I can still get the flu if I have just had an infection of some kind or get bronchitis first then I can get the flu and I can have a cytokine storm that way too. I am aware of this, but also am aware that if I get the flu shot, it can kill me or make it so another disease has the ability to attack me. So I do not get the flu shot, I had a good discussion with a doctor who knows lots about this about three or four years ago.

I am definitely not an antivaxer, but I am aware of how my body reacts to vaccines, I am skeptical of taking them. My reaction is not an egg allergy, I love eggs and rarely ever have a problem with eating them other than some smelly farts if I eat too much deviled eggs.

Just like ISIS, they don't care if they blow themselves up. Whats to stop them from giving themselves bioweapons and spreading the plague to others.

I completely agree.

Ww1 trains are the same as wuhan citizens that can fly to chicago in 14 hours....

The Wright brothers even hit puberty yet in your scenario?

There was a staff writer for The Federalist blog. She died about a year ago suddenly. She was by all accounts young and healthy. She just went home feeling rundown one day, and when they found her she was dead. It was the flu.
