Yeah, I prepped for 2012. I just finished prepping a couple years ago. Oh yeah, I finally got the powdered milk two months ago so It has only been a couple of months actually. Better late than never, maybe I will be prepared for one in the near future to 2012 standards.

I stocked my basement with strippers.

It was tedious using them all up before they went bad.

Stripped never go bad.. something tells me you just had the wrong strippers.

Yeah... and was it ever anticlimactic. I hunkered down in my bug out basement and got naked, started rubbing MREs and Ammo all over my body. The MRE peanut butter is the BEST. It was all so exciting. I had all my deep cycle batteries hooked up to the power inverters and solar cells ...and the alligator clips clipped on various body parts.. I was STOKED..

then nothing. Not even a little zombie outbreak. I let the critters lick the peanut butter off of me and the ammo and watched some TV. There is NO truth to the ancient proverb that its better to have prepped and been let down than to have never prepped at all.

We have had at least three months of food in stock since 2008, it had nothing to do with the 2012 fear mongering though, it had more to do with making sure that we could survive a little catastrophe without having to bug out for simple things.

I'm prepared, mentally and emotionally, for many things.

If you're asking about how much instant ramen noodles I have...

Que sera, sera.

Of course not. Not everyone here is an out and out nut job.

This is the internet. Show me a person who isn't crazy as a loon, and I will demonstrate to you beyond reasonable doubt that they are either a bot, are are faking it.

I am shooting from the hip right now, but I do believe Europe and the countries over there, think in more survival terms than us in the western world ,because we are still new countries and didn't see the amount of war they did overseas.

I spent 3 years in Europe as a student, and my personal impression was that survivalism simply wasn't a thing. Most of Europe is seismically stable, not prone to hurricanes or tornadoes, or wild fires, or any natural disaster beyond a bit of flooding. So back then nobody even had bug out bags, and only people in rural areas stockpiled food and that was just in case they got stuck in the snow for a couple of days.

Then again I lived in a big city, so maybe my experience was not typical of everywhere.

I think that the attitude where I was living was largely that the state was well prepared and well equipped (They had a lot of practice having spent 40 years preparing to be nuked by Washington in order to prevent the Russians from taking their territory. Or something to that effect at least), and that it would provide for them better than they could provide for themselves. So they were better off evacuating to a per-preapered safe area guarded by the military than going it alone

Obama and the other Muslim brotherhood getting into the W.H., CIA, FBI, House and Senate in 2008 was the REAL end of the world "2012" to stock up for. It'll take generations to recover if ever (+$11T debt in 8 years and now must continue or crash)

Living on the gulf coast in Florida, I had a couple friends prep their big boats and had a place for me, my family and pets.

That was nice. Had no worries.

Never believed in the Mayan calendar ending this world but you never know.

I had been more concerned about y2k because that was more understandable as everyone I knew were into computers etc.

Y2K?

That was one that I never really took seriously as there were so many scams going around. I just figured that most of it was whipped up by the media as doom porn. I heard all kinds of stories about people setting themselves up as being Y2K experts and going round conning people. A guy I know told me about somebody making sure that office equipment was Y2K compliant. Things like water coolers, and power cables and charging people to go around and stick little Y2K compliant stickers on them.

I'm not sure that really counts. At least not in the spirit of this thread.

I was more thinking of the Mayan bits.

1 - no

2 - no and minimal . the " threat " was so open ended and nebulous - that few crazies even knew what was " predicted " - they just panicked

3 - my preparedness = general - i has never preped for a specific threat

The simple questions

1. Did you prep for 2012.
2. Were you more worried about the miyan prophecy, or about people doing crazy thing because they believed in it?
3. If you preped what did you do?

Where I was living at the time most people didn't know about it, or didn't care about it. So I didn't even store extra canned food. There was no question of it being bunk.

1. NOPE. But, I did "prep" some for Y2K.
2. NOPE. But was worried that not every financial institution would have both FOUND and FIXED any Y2K-related bugs.
3. I made sure I had enough cash to get through a couple of weeks, just in case either my bank and/or my employers bank had issues.

I was NOT confident that every financial institution would have both FOUND and FIXED any Y2K-related bugs by the date. But I was confident that once they were experienced they could be fixed quickly. Fixing them should be easy, FINDING them to begin with can be hit-or-miss.

PS: Funny story, the telecom I worked-for at that time only had TWO things break because of Y2K:
* A clock on the internal company "Intranet" web-site. We just took it off the web-page. Who needs a clock on a web-page anyway?
* The ACD (automatic call distribution) system kept sending all incoming customer-service calls to 3rd-party call-centers (as if it was after-hours for our internal call-centers).As it turns out, it was a known issue, with a known fix, we had been checked-off as completed (patch applied) - but had not been completed.

PPS: Always thought the 2012 stuff was bunk. I always felt it was the end of an ERA (i.e. calendar rolls-over) not the end of the WORLD.

I feel the need to come clean. What I said before is true.

What I ommitted is that my Bride, her friends, my friends, and some very close friends all talked and we agreed that 2012 was highly unlikely to herald any profound changes. However, we are all at least 11% moonbat, and I know for a fact that virtually all of us socked in just a little more supplies, just a little more stuff.

We bought a 14-foot inflatable boat, which still sits unused in our storage room, and a 140 sq. ft. Kodiak tent (which actually gets used). We bought water filtration, and stocked in a bunch of heirloom seeds. I bought a ton of guitar strings and sealed them in vacuum bags. All stuff that wouldn't go to waste. All stuff we needed. We still have 250 rolls of Fiesta! toilet paper sealed in bags in the shed. Fiesta! I would rate at about 600 grit. Still, better than the alternative.

We weren't so much worried as we knew we'd feel like horses asses if we guessed wrong.

There. I feel better. My previous answer sounded a tad smug.

The real Mayan prophecies were lost in the false claims made by many unscrupulous people whom wanted to make a fortune from making the "New Age movement" believe the world was going to end in 2012.

In fact, the Mayan prophecies NEVER said the world was going to end in 2012. They said a new era would begin in 2012, and that new era would bring changes so drastic that many people would literally go insane.

In fact i even made a thread back in September 2011 in which I separated the claims that "in 2012 Nibiru would pass by the Earth and destroy it, from the actual evidence that seems to show there is indeed a large body in the outer edge of the Solar system which could be a large planet, or even a brown dwarf.

This is my intro in that thread.

Despite what your own thoughts are regarding this issue, there is scientific evidence which points to the possibility of a brown dwarf, and at least another planet existing in our Solar System.

This thread is not about 2012, as I have said many times I do not think Nibiru, or any planet or brown dwarf will pass by in 2012, this is about the real evidence that point to the real possibility that a brown dwarf, and at least one other planet exist in our Solar System.
...

Scientific Research on Solar System Brown Dwarf and Planet X.

In other threads i posted what the actual Mayan prophecies said, and not what people whom wanted to make money from the sales of their books attempted to do by trying to scare people. BTW, i have never sold a book with this info. But I posted this info free in ATS.

However, i always believed in being prepared. For example, living in South Florida i always was prepared for a hurricane. I never spent a fortune but got prepared to the best i could prepare my family and I without going completely insane spending every penny I got.

I also have been prepared, for a long while now, to a possible crash in the markets, living in an area that would not suffer as much as large cities, an area where there is plenty of game, fresh water and fresh fish. But like I said/written before, I never went overboard as some other people have whom went bankrupt for spending too much money getting prepared.

I also have in both my vehicles a road trip kit with fresh first aid, some snacks, water, warm clothes, etc, just in case we ever got stuck in winter in the middle of nowhere.

Being prepared is imo a good idea, as long as you don't go overboard and spend all your money and become bankrupt. People should be prepared to the best of their ability/circumstance.
