I know this was posted last july when the man got arrested but this is an update. The man did indeed get sentenced.
In fact, the man got sentenced to 16 years and 30 days

"15 years for the hate crime of arson and given a year for reckless use of explosives or fire and 30 days for harassment. The sentences are to be served consecutively, Story County court records said."

They should just say 15 years for hate crime. Let's be honest.

Oh, he did take a flag that wasn't his to burn. He would have gotten something for that and should have.

16 years and 30 days....

So what do you get for name calling? Same freedom of expression, no!!???

This is the perfect example of "slippery slope" legislation.

He needs to appeal and sue that county, even if it has to go to the Supreme Court, which hopefully it will.

I'm calling BS.

ETA:

Here are some actual crimes that warrant 16+ years:

•DUI Causing Death or Mutilation
•Arson
•Assisting Suicide
•Battery, Aggravated
•Battery, Aggravated on a Police Officer
•Battery, Assault on 65 or older person
•Child Abuse
•Touching Child for Lustful Purposes
•Trafficking any drug
•Burglary
•Larceny
•Carjacking
•Home Invasion
Etc. Etc. Etc.

16 years for burning a flag, and threatening to burn down a bar? 16 years for having a bad day???

Like I said, ..BS.

Bit of caveat, it's not like he just burned a LBGT flag... He stole it from a church, burned it in a street, and threatened to burn down a bar.

15 years seems excessive either way... But it's not like he just bought one and burned it in his back yard and caught a charge.

True but how many protestors who burn the stars and stripes burn their own?

I'm not sure... If they stole it though, they should definitely be charged, especially if they made accompanying threats.

I know if you rip up campaign signs where I live, you can get charged... It's still theft, and or destruction of property depending how they go about it.

I don't care what opinion people have, as long as they aren't stealing/destroying/vandalizing other's property.

Edit: and again, 15 years seems excessive for someone showing their ass.

He got some of the left-wing dictatorship punishment it seems. Does anyone know the judge that presided over the case?

That sounds crazy.... I would expect he got 2 weeks of community service.. not 15 years in jail.. ?? huh

I can see ninety days in jail as appropriate, but not sixteen years. If the guy assaulted someone, then maybe a year or so in prison.

We have a major problem in our society with abuse of the legal system which will lead to people hating the LGBTQ community. This is a real bad ruling. I have some gay friends and they would never even want the person getting over ninety days in jail for something like that.

Anymore questions?

I've got a question for you though.

You know when you underline # it just makes you look retarded right?

I was locked up with killers who only did 10 for shooting the clerk in a gas station.

This 16yr sentence is insane.

He should have shot someone, he'd have only faced half this...

Yeah... how does it feel to be so lacking in communication skills that you cannot put together a coherent sentence?

That was a rhetorical question in case you didn't catch it...

Rhetorical means I don't expect an answer in case you didn't know, so don't bother (yet somehow I know you will respond with another incomprehensible one liner)...
