Chilean C-130 missing

The KC/C-130s discovered a serious prop issue that resulted in a Marine KC-130 breaking apart in flight over Mississippi two years ago. The T model was grounded for months afterwards. The Air Force grounded 55 aircraft this year, with another 5 in the Depot also being inspected. All had props built before 1971 that were facing cracking issues.

If they're still finding cracks, or at least cause for concern, it's a very real possibility. Even flying to Antarctica aircraft don't just fall out of the sky. Especially with experienced pilots flying. It's very few and very far between when weather causes an accident like this.

Some very unwelcome news. These type of events always put a cringe
in my gut. My heart goes out. This was one of the huge military craft right?

Not really huge, but it's a cargo aircraft yes. They have bench seats along the sides for passengers. This variant carries up to 42,000 pounds of cargo, or up to 92 passengers. They usually have a mix of pallets and passengers.

Lt. Col, Col, and Maj. Gen were on board.

FWIW...I saw no planes out searching on day 1 and 2, zero. Maybe weather, maybe different transponders, but I saw nothing over that part of the sea. (i.e. Flightradar, etc).

I would have expected to see numerous aircraft, but I didn't.

Just sayin'.

At least the first day they had gale force winds and high seas. Visibility didn't lift until later the second day or early the third.
