Just watched the Irishman on netflix. Long movie at 3 1/2 hours but really good. Scorsese, DeNiro, Pacino, and the return of Joe Pesci. Getting great reviews such as this one

Anybody else watch it yet and what did you think of it?

Excellent movie. My only complaint is I thought it was a tad too long, they could definitely trim some areas and bring it down to 3hrs but overall I thought it was a solid movie. The dialogue was phenomenal and the back and forth between some of the characters had me laughing my ass off especially that scene with Pacino and the other guy being late. Solid film, solid cast and a fitting farewell to the genre and the cast as this is most likely Scorsese's final gangster/mob movie featuring the mob pack (Pesci, Deniro, Keitel etc).

8.5/10

Don’t think I’ll ever watch anything from Hollywood again, especially if it has Deniro in it... I don’t care how good it is !

So disgusted with the entertainment industry’s politics and how they handle themselves over it , that I just can’t support it anymore on any level.

Watched it last night.
Over 3 hours long...but REALLY well done, educational and enjoyable.
Acting and star power first rate.
Recommend!

I really enjoyed it myself. The last 30 minutes a little morbid but otherwise i found it really entertaining. Thought Al Pacino stole the show as Jimmy Hoffa.

because of his whiny attitude. Anyone who gets on stage at an awards ceremony and yells “# you” at the president is a total moron with no sense of decency. He also constantly complains about how terrible and abusive Trump is and it’s simply untrue. Then these Hollywood dem types extremely bully any Trump supporters. It’s just all so disgusting and I’ve had it with all of them.. especially Deniro who seems to lead the pack.

Down with Hollywood and ALL their movies !! 👎🏼 If I could boycott I would. 😆

I watched it Wednesday afternoon. I think it's next year's Best Picture as it's the first adult, as in mature, film out of Hollywood in years.

I hate DeNiro's politics, but he can act. I think there will be some Best or Best Supporting Actor nominations as well.

Two thumbs up from me. 👍🏻👍🏻

Good cast but really boring.

Film could have been 2hrs 30.

Just because its Martin Scorsese, it doesn't get a pass.
Just like quentin tarantino and his rubbish once/hollywood. "Amazing film,Best eva" please stop licking the directors ass because he made some good films.

Another director springs to mind.
Steven Spielberg.

I thought Pacino was great as Hoffa really stood out. I really enjoyed it and its accuracy about how crooked the unions were. Definitely was good to see Pesci back, DeNiro was good too. It was long but you didn't feel cheated it covered the complete sordid tail. Scorsese can weave a tale can always watch his stuff, doubt we will see such so many accomplished actors with an accomplished director again.

I laugh every time I see someone throw another wall around themselves to defend a politician that would step over them if they were dying on the street.

ETA: watching the movie now, it’s allright. It’s no Casino.

It isn’t about defending Trump and more about shutting down loud mouths who are uncouth and use the entertainment industry for their political bias.

If I want to watch an award show... I don’t want to see people in the industry taking rude pot shots at the President, no matter who he is.

Celebrities have made a big mistake in thinking that they are somebody so special as to dictate to others what their political ideologies should be. It’s getting old and will backfire on them and the industry at some point.

ETA: Boycotting the movie like an angry Irishman 😜

To be fair i didn't get one whiff of left wing political pandering in this movie.

Not a transgender or female gangster in sight. Women living traditional lives, making meals, looking after children.... all sorts of horrible, terrible, nasty inequality and oppression. Be some SJW's having a meltdown at the historical accuracy.

In 20 years time the remake will have a woman playing Jimmy Hoffa and a black Frank Sheeran.

Enjoy it while you can.

You don’t get it .. it’s not about the possible political pandering in the movie. It’s more about who is acting in the movie, and boycotting the movie because of hateful and extremely bias negatively coming from those actors.

Watched it last night and came away with mixed feelings both positive and negative but enjoyed the film overall.

I really enjoyed the story and got the same vibe from this film as I got from many of Scorsese's previous works such as Goodfellas, The Departed and Gangs of New York.

I was also impressed by most of the acting with an emphasis upon some of the supporting and secondary roles. There are actors in this film with barely any lines ( or none at all ) who manage to stand out even while sharing the screen with the likes of Pacino, Pesci, Keitel and DeNiro. I suspect that some of the lesser known background players in this movie will soon become the next generations touchstone actors.

The biggest negative for me was the CGI used on the actors to age / de-age. The uncanny valley is real.

With that said there was an underlying aspect to this film that I couldn't shake... The feeling that this was a final bow for what I suppose one could refer to as the Scorsese "family"... DeNiro, Pesci, Keitel and Pesci and, of course, Scorsese. I don't know if it's been advertised as or was meant as such but I was left with this feeling of finality - that this core group of folks who have been so relevant since my childhood in the mid to late 70's were doing their thing for the last time together.

That end of an era feeling really hit me hard, though I could be wrong and maybe it's just a subjective thing.

All in all it's a good movie and one that will likely end up in my personal list of films that I revisit every few years to rewatch. Most of Scorsese's movies are on it.

They are actors playing a role. Professional and personal lives are two different things.

I wouldn't boycott cinema because of the political beliefs of the actors, sounds silly to me.

Judge the film on it's own merit.

You don’t get what I’m saying. It’s not only the actors I’m boycotting.. it’s the whole industry because of their political behaviour and bullying. I want them to realize they can’t force their opinions on others, then expect them to come spend money on their movies. I wish many more would boycott them !

Plus I couldn’t watch DeNero acting without feeling disgusted at seeing his mug up on screen. Wouldn’t be an enjoyable experience at all.

I am with you that guy has diarrhea of the mouth I pick and choose these days what movies I will watch according to whos in it and there are slim pickings out there ...actually there hasn't been a movie worth bragging about in years done with Hollywood.

Each to their own i guess however knowing your enemy is always a good strategy. I also find De Niro abhorrent but he's good at his job. Especially in movies like this. Sure Scorsece is a tree hugging Dem but i don't see any of that persuasion in his films.
