Yeah you heard me...
Canned gravy is evil...
Right along with boxed mashed potatoes..
So is canned cranberry sauce and it's evil jiggle ska-plop as it exits the can.

Boxed stuffing deserves its own thread...

A thanksgiving tradition in my house is 7up, vodka and a little maraschino cherry juice with cherry.
As a kid in the late 70s that was a holiday staple at grandma's house and yours truly was the bar tender. Well as I was perusing the fridge I noticed a lack of cherries and we just can't have that...so off I go to Wal-Mart...woof...that was an adventure..

Anyway..ranting here... I couldn't believe the amount of canned gravy in carts....what The hell!
That crap is nasty and making real gravy from the turkey drippings is so damn easy.. Make a roux...

Boil some potatoes too...
Mashed "real" potatoes and homemade turkey gravy people!!!

Oh the wasted drippings make me sad....ugh...

Rant over....

We were lamenting over in FCD's thread how easy it actually is to cook a turkey, but that most people don't seem to really know how. Obviously not if they're buying flake taters and canned gravy.

At that point they might as well just heat up the Hungry Man turkey dinners for evryone.

Probably one of the few things we agree on. Canned gravy is the definition of evil.

No! No! No A THOUSAND TIMES NO! The only LEGAL cranberry sauce has ridges! It absolutely MUST be removed from the can WHOLE so that ridges show. Anything else is blasphemy.

If you can't make your own gravy then this Thanksgiving will be a dark and hopeless affair.

Full disclosure: I can't make gravy, but it's more lack of desire than lack of ability. We just aren't big gravy people over here.

The only thing the canned cranberry sauce is good for is making jokes..

Sorry, I prefer homemade gravy, but gravy is gravy and it runs through my veins....I will take any gravy I can get.

I'm cool with not eating gravy but not with eating it out of a can...

And as for not knowing how....
With alton Brown and Martha Stewart on YouTube there is no excuse not to know how to cook.

And it's so freaking expensive!!! I'd want to know just to save the $$$... such a waste of those good drippings too.

As for canned cranberry sauce, it's so darn quick and easy to make it, I just don't know why anyone wouldn't. And that includes my mother bless her heart. I thought I hated cranberry sauce because I'd only had the canned stuff. Then I tried making my own and I couldn't believe the difference! I also add a little cinnamon and nutmeg to mine. Sooooo yummy!

LOL! You and my son... he calls it Vitamin G.

He swears by biscuits and gravy for a hangover.

Jiggle ska-plop is great on turkey sandwiches.

I said it.

Yeah, I went there.

Gotta throw down on the jiggly.

White bread, Miracle Whip, lettuce, turkey bird, pepper, and the jiggly.

This is the hill I'm willing to die on, dammit!

As for gravy?

I tried making gravy once, ended up with adamantium.

Wife makes gravy from the fixings.

Jiggle ska-plop sounds too much like skippity paps ... and now my shoulder hurts from laughing. Thanks, just ... thanks.
