10,000 D.U.M.B.s (Deep Underground Military Bases)?

I don't know if this has been posted on here yet because I don't visit very often, but I recently found this pdf about "Subterranean Operations" that was officially released by the Department of the Army (and was uploaded by the Federation of American Scientists).

There's a lot to take in here, including how people deal with being kept underground for a prolonged period of time. As the manual states: "Subterranean environments may reduce a Soldier's sense of purpose and commitment, causing them to lose combat effectiveness sooner than anticipated due to the psychological and physiological stress of these environments....As a result, Soldiers may have powerful emotional reactions. These may include an overwhelming sense of fear or momentary loss of their moral compass leading to illegal or immoral actions."

But the most interesting part (to me) was that "Today, over 10,000 known subterranean facilities exist around the world." Ten thousand? Known? How many more unknown? And just how many people are living/working underground? What's taking place at these facilities? Are they all government/military related?

So many underground "facilities," so many questions.

I wonder how big they are? I wonder if they test new tech and vehicles in them because anything above ground can be seen by satellites. Also who gets access to them if some mega disaster happens?

Underground facility includes things like storage facilities in caves. This is like the claim that we have thousands of overseas bases. Technically we do, but there are hundreds that are things like relay stations. A nuclear waste facility is an underground facility, as is a cave with a food storage facility.

Really? 10,000 bases? How many people do we have in uniform? What is the population of each military base we have above ground? How many people does that leave to man the underground bases? You do the math.

They don't tell you about the thousands of ancient underground shelters littering the globe and ocean floors full of dead people and technology and supplies either now do they?

Well according to Military Fire Power data.
US has around 44% available for manpower, Reverse Personal 860,000. So that number is a possblity.

This PDF is an ATP (Army Technical Publication).

ATPs are sets of procedures and training doctrines. In this case, this ATP is applicable to Brigade Combat Teams down to individual soldiers. This ATP covers how to operate in underground facilities, what the dangers and hazards are, what to expect from typical underground facility best-practices in terms of construction and infrastructure.

It also covers securing captured underground facilities, access control and denial procedures, classified materials handling, combat operations, and a bunch of other topics.

It isn't just underground "facilities" as we may be imagining them. They also cover tactical tunnels (think Vietnam, Israel/Gaza tunnels, Mexican Cartel drug tunnels etc.) and even the now little-known tactical tunnels of the Great War. One such example of tactical tunnels were dug under German lines by British forces, packed with explosives, and detonated killing 10,000 Germans during the Battle of Messines.

While I do not doubt that the US has a network of underground bases, this ATP is not directly relating to the existence of DUMBS as described by the OP.

What about areas prone to earthquakes?

Iron Mountain, a private data storage facility is in my state. The company has an entirely underground secure storage facility.

That is just one of many such facilities. Think of the number of US military nuke silos. in the 1960s 1000 minuteman silo facilities were built, an average of 1.6 per day. The former USSR likely built just as many.

Then there is China with the "Underground Great Wall", nearly 3000 miles of tunnel underground network for transporting nuclear arms.

There are a lot more underground facilities than many would think, and they are rather wide spread.

Then add in things like long term ammunition storage facilities which are nearly all underground. I wouldn't be surprised if the 10,000 number is not only low, but only a small portion for the number that currently exist.

As well as being common sense even if expensive to implement and NOT a luxury it would be essential for genuine long duration habitation of these subterranean facility's in order to maintain maximum efficiency of there human staff.

Anyone can build a tunnel and pack if full of room's but this will require excavation and reinforcement of very large spaces with high roof's to maintain maximum moral among people, they could project stars at night and a variety of day time sky's during the day, place these artificial light sources behind windows to create the effect of being in building's rather than deep underground and even use them in underground park spaces and garden's to complete with artificial breeze wind generators and rain affect irrigation system's to maintain the illusion of being above ground.

If intending such deep based for long term deployment it is in fact essential if they want to keep there personnel sane.

Some of these underground facility's are already the size of medium sized city's so I would be amazed if they had not already attempted something along these line's.

What do they know that we do not that they need to build so many of these anyway?.

I'm kinda discounting the CCDWE as a possibility considered by deep-state due unprecedentedly massive earthquakes crustal undulations and deep landmass flooding suffered as Greenland makes its way to equator in 1/2 day or so making man-made structures such as tunnels exponentially weak and puny in comparison to forces involved. Death traps offering no protection to be blunt in event of CCDWE.

The tunneling has to be for something happening externally or at surface that tunnels would offer haven from. Something that lends itself to long planning, expenditures and secrecy involved.

Dozens of things come to mind.

obviously some of these things exist, we have known about NORAD and other 'hardened sites' sense the 60's...there IN MAJOR MOVIES like war games.

but i would put the actual number much much lower than the OP unless you count basements as dumbs.


if there were all these 10.000's of bases, whos staffing them? lets say every site has 100 people employed at them and that is a super super unrealistically low number thats over 1,000,000 people just sweeping the floors and changing the light bulbs and security let along the people they would need as far as specialists go.


there arent that many people just missing every year and appearing ever year when they get employed by these secret bases and than finally retiring....just not enough people in any realistic model. Even if you throw in contractors and military and whoever else would be there like DIA,NSA etc. so there would be 10's of millions of people just not talking about these things.

and honestly i HOPE the US has these types of installations, why wouldn't we? why are DUMBS soooooooooooo inconceivable to people? its because of people/liars like Phil shynder
