Most likely someone with a shady past coerced into doing it or risk a similar fate

More likely an existing inmate. Somebody already in for murder or another serious crime. Somebody who wouldn't seem out of place and who know the layout.

In which case we could be talking a few thousand, or maybe even just a favor on the outside, like killing a rival gang member.

You may be shocked to know some statistics on teachers. Nearly all 1st time teachers have no experience and 100% of teachers polled admit to not having experience at one point in their career. Monsters.

Yeah, this did not need to be expensive. Just pay off a couple guards, and I'm sure they could find a couple inmates that would be willing to do the job that just needed to be put in the same room.

Actually - that is pretty much what had to happen - who else could get the security cameras shut down.
