I miss the days when people had the expectation of having to present evidence with their post and were questioned on their objectivity

I wouldnt mind seeing this enforced. Post after post after post of 3 sentence quips and digs with no evidence or data to support conclusions

I've learned so much from the quality members that have also refrained from posting as I have

Would be nice to see some form of this return

This suggestion is off-topic in regard to the Mud Pit itself, but my understanding when I first joined ATS that in the normal forums, statements of fact had to be supported with reliable references. Claims made without evidence were ... off-topic? Against T&C, etc.

I do understand that there is a minimum of Mod time and a lot of Members and that it's not really practical to police every post for its forensic strength.

I wonder though if manners and decorum should extend to basic understandings of true and false statements and the distinction between a fact and an opinion?

And, I hope you realize I was not being critical, but rather trying to be constructive.

No need to be defensive. I was not talking about personal attacks, I get that. I was talking about more in general. And, candidly, if you can't see some of that then I would posit you're not seeing the full picture.

I try to keep my controversial topics in the mud pit (lord knows I've posted there enough), and if I don't then please advise me of what ones you feel would be better placed there.

I've been beat up a little bit lately, which I'm sure you've seen. So, even I am on thin ice.

ETA - I guess I look at it like this; if you don't want FCD around then I understand. I was just trying to provide some input.

I'm still unsure what constitutes "mud slinging" anyway. I imagine it's partisan comments that do not advance the topic at hand. I guess....

Totally understand what you're saying.

One thing I've started trying to do is making sure my online style of discussion would match my real life style. I am a bit sarcastic in life, but I'm trying to at least make it apparent that it is a tool I use to have fun and approach things lighter rather than with malice.

You can start with the term "Libtard". Insults and other such ad hominem attacks replacing facts and civil discourse.

The 3 Maomigos and the Culture-Revolution on ATS

About time! Here's the rub: we're up against Big Data Military Industrial Complexes of opinion management, PR and outright propaganda. And they might throw money against you until effective moderation poses financial risks, members will have to chip in eventually.
We'll have to stand as one with this, are we clear? Socialism! I'm talking to you, crazy rich Asians cuz DBCowboy wont pay a thing! Are you even listening? Contact ATS for donations, ASAP!

Our 3 Amigos might even start to mod a few batsh!tcrazy members to raise a Legion of Dorks... high there! Gotta light?

However. I'm sure a lotta old members will bubble up to help out once this gains some traction... and if it's just for a few solid provocations in the pit to keep those fckers occupied. This is a good time for such a move, congratulations to all of us!

Here is a solid recent example of mudslinging outside the Mudpit that this policy is trying to eliminate. Outside of personal attacks, it shouldn’t raise an eyebrow inside the Political Mudpit. It is of the style somewhat expected there.

But outside the Mudpit, it is the type of thread that many like to avoid. So let’s look at ways the thread could have been written.

1) Source. An overtly biased source and writing style by the sourced article’s author is hard to overcome. So maybe try to find a cleaner, more neutral source.
2) OP commentary. Highly desired because a Link and “what do you think” is a poor way to have a discussion. But crafting the OP’s opinion goes a long way towards setting the tone of a thread.
3) Member Replies. What we see is an ongoing pile of trying to write the best one liner for the most part. Some censor circumvention of poorly chosen language. And checking the records...not one member complaint, so no one “Alerted and Didn’t Respond”

These are easy traps to avoid in writing. We see the complaints and laments that ATS is “a political cesspool” “an echo chamber” etc. Do people people prefer it to remain that way?

Think children's playground antics. Name calling, attacking the member instead of debating the topic, labeling every member of a group with slurs like racist or communists to disparage them. In other words bad behavior, behavior that you would punish a child for doing on the playground.

Another issue is intentionally baiting by using terms like Drumf or Killary, like Trumptards or Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) and the like.

It's not hard to civilly debate political differences without all of that.

You have just posted an example of political trolling outside the Political Mud Pit in this post from you. This is not about Right, Left or any politician, it's about posting in a civil manner and keeping the political mud inside the Pit.

Don't be fooled here, this is not a flash in the pan. Any mud outside the Pit will be hit as it's noticed and those who won't stop will find themselves unable to post if they get hit too often. This is not a suggestion to be debated.

Who said anything about Banning you or about curse words

This is not a thread about Trump and you injected a negative post about Trump into this thread where it does not belong. It's not about what Trump says, it's about mud being flung outside of the Pit by both sides. Simple really. Baiting is also political trolling.

Make you a deal, if Trump makes an account and calls you human scum inside out outside the Mudpit. Alert the post or send me a PM with the link so I can and it will be taken care of by the staff. If it takes a Posting Ban to straighten Trump out to post within the rules I’ll even volunteer ahead of time to handle it. I tend to get the hard ones no one wants anyway.

*sigh*

When I was younger, my mother had horses. Around the fence was an electric fence. We were told NEVER to touch the electric fence.

So of course, I touched the electric fence.

Now it's "human scum".

I'm an old man now. Wise, and sage in the ways of the world.

But sometimes,. . . . . . . I still want to touch that electric fence.

I think those days are long gone. It used to be that knowingly lying was a bannable offence. Now a silly gif is considered an answer to a thread or post. Anything goes in this new approach, apparently and pointless to complain.
