My wife even had a large dead rat dropped at the back door yesterday. We both have a phobia of rats and mice.

Ever heard of a sheep cat? a guard cat? a seeing eye cat? a hunting cat? Of course not because they are bloody useless animals who don't deserve to live alongside us!!!!!!!!!!!

With a phobia of rats and mice, isn't it better to have them presented dead at your doorstep than moving into your house or even hanging out in your yard where they can spread all kinds of disease?

We have a small, four-cat colony that kills at least three mice per day. THAT is the role of cats....from ships throughout history and WWI trenches to farms across the world. Even breweries, specifically the UK. There is speculation that mass cat slaughter helped pave the way and spread of the Black Death in the Middle Ages. It can be contested; however, what can't be contested is that rodents spread disease and cats kill mice. (Personally, I think terriers are better for killing rats. I'm impressed that your neighborhood cat(s) were able to take down a rat.) You have cats protecting the health of the entire neighborhood.

They are valuable from health and resource perspectives alone. However, they also provide invaluable companionship. Studies show decreased owner mortality. Here's one of them: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...

Negligent, stupid human owners are the problem, not the cats.

My cat saved my life, twice.

I am a T2 diabetic. Even with close monitoring, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a dangerous possibility - coma, and death are possible.

I am familiar enough with the symptoms to avoid the condition while awake, but on these two occasions, I was asleep when my blood sugar dropped into the danger zone.

Though he had never been trained to do so, my cat recognized that something was wrong with me and aggressively pawed, clawed, and meowed at me until I awoke and immediately knew I was in trouble.

He had never acted that way before.

He’ll never do so again.

My little buddy, my lifesaver, died two weeks ago, after having given me the full 18 years of his life in devotion and companionship.

The biggest problem with cats, as with dogs, are the humans they live with.

Ahhhhhh! This really got me. Before my son was diagnosed with Type 1, our cat would beat down his door to get in his crib, he was all over him and we were so frustrated why our otherwise amazing cat was suddenly bothering our baby.

If he did get in the crib, he would lay by him and meow and meow until we woke up.

Of course, his blood sugar was sky high and we had no idea. 😭

One night we thought our son had caught the flu, but we had a doctors appointment the next day so we were waiting to take him in. Our cat was scratching at his door so badly, and when I went to shoot him away I just happened to go in and check on him. Well, he was in DKA at that point and we might have missed it if not for our cat.

I'm tearing up just writing this. Cats can be special too. 💙 I'm so sorry about your special pet.

Here's my big dummy, Hermes.

I don't like cats.

I don't need a reason, although there are many.

"The point of my frustration is that I shouldn't have to"? The point of your OP IS that it's your problem. Easy answer for you. Go to your nearest zoo and take a plastic shopping bag with you. When you get there as for a bag of big cat crap, lion or tiger crap, they usually give it you for free. Put a few bits of it about and the cats will come no where near your place. Job done, no injury to pets and no offending neighbours.

Cat are some of the best hunters in the animal kingdom.....

Just as I was about to buy traps a big ol' fluffy cat strolled into our yard. He was sitting by the septic tanks. One by one, that cat was killing the ground squirrels.

I don't understand how people don't get how cool cats are as pets. Only second to porn, cat videos rule the internet:

Boo. Hoo.

Guess you haven't heard of barn cats or ship's cats. Throughout history this animal has controlled the rodent population all over the world.

Sending the whambulance to snag your sorry a**.

I'm not a dog fan. They smell, they drool on everything, and they make a lot of noise. BUT, I don't whine about them. I accept them for what they are and move on.

ETA, dogs are for control freaks who want to be worshipped and obeyed. Cats are cool customers. Their owners don't need adoration. The joy in owning a cat is letting it be itself.

People tend to lean either psychopathic or sociopathic when in a bad place. The main difference is that psychopaths typically insist on living to call a situation a win. Sociopaths care more about winning than surviving the action. Sociopaths tend to like cats more than dogs, to the point they will not as likely risk their lives in order to provide for the cat.

So with that in mind, do you understand the shear volume of human lives inadvertently saved by cats by people that don’t really care if they die while trying to kill another human being?

On this we agree, without stupid cat videos, there wouldn't be an internet.

You should be kissing those cat's furry little paws... well at least that is if you prefer not having your domicile overrun with mice and rats.

I am a cat person! and i am absolutly sorry about your plight! I would never let my cat roam outside, I believe it is irresponsible to do so [farm cats excluded] being predetors they decimate songbird population's, and cause other problem's and disease's that vaccinated indoor cats don't! We had a similer problem here [Minnesota USA] couldn't reason with an unreasonable idiot neighbor, so i rented a couple of live traps, got all three cats and took them to animal control and told the idiot neighbor what i did [thats another story]

They had to jump through hoops to get their cats back and they did only to have two of them killed when the other idiot neighbor's pitbull got loose! cop's later had to shoot the dog. I mean i shouldn't have had to do all that if these people would
just be a little responsible and considerate, yeah right! not in this day and age SMFH. now both idiot family's are suing each other due to their losses, unbelievable. good case for Judge Judy! our law's here cover dog's and cat's and other pet's
good luck to you friend

I understand your frustration with a baby and momma being awaken at night like that.

It really is your neighbors fault.

I would never let my little girl outside like that. I love her too much and don’t want her getting hurt or killed.

I got my cat as a companion for my son when he was 4. She is his best friend and protector.

She would track down the big spiders when we lived in AZ. I didn’t have to worry about surprises with spiders because she would sniff them out the minute they entered the house. She is a love when anyone is sick; and wonderful company.

I also had a neighbor who was a terrible cat owner. He wouldn’t buy cat litter; he would let the cat out in the hall late at night so the cat would urinate there and not in his apt. He once shaved one stripe of the cats fur from his head to his tail, like a reverse Mohawk. When I asked why, he didn’t answer.

Every time I came home he’d come out into the hallway and try to chat me up, and the poor cat would try to run into my place.

Eventually he moved, and I wasn’t home when he did. Apparently, he tried to give the cat to several neighbors. I would have taken the poor baby even though it would’ve cost a small fortune to get its shots and fixed cause he never did. He barely fed the cat.

Every Christmas I would leave treats for the cat by his door. It wasn’t the cats fault, it was his for not taking care of the cat properly.

The problem is with the irresponsible people who own these pets!

Not everyone on here defending the cats are cat people. Some just have common sense and researched what feral and stray cats actually accomplish for us. Trust me when I say, we'd very much not be happy campers if all the feral, stray, or outdoor cat's up and disappeared.

I know. I just... I dunno really... Felt like adding more, and use you as a spring off point...

I'm a dog person stuck with cats instead at the moment. Love my cats, but is not the same thing. Ours are all indoors cats. That said, I get pissed when I see people trying to hurt the strays.

Just yesterday my g/f had to go out and clean cat food off the middle of the street because some lady put it there to try and get the strays run over.

Great way to kill a cat or cause accidents, bitch...

I hazard a guess that you did not research the impact the feral cats are having here in Australia on endangered native wild life.
