Didn't OP say it was meant to display a plantation owner and enslaved person? I mean that does seem like there is something racist about that.

But i agree that it's mostly just kids being dumb.

Sure.. maybe how some people are still ignorant of black issues and discount their grievances. Much like how white people started saying "all lives matter" in response to "black lives matter". Showing complete ignorance.

Yet, i think this high school thing is really not that bad in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly... Stupidity at its finest. Nothing newsworthy.

I agree. This is one data point in a larger set of data points in that "grand scheme of things" as you put it. I think it is worth discussion on why these kids thought it was acceptable. Do kids do stupid stuff? Of course, they always have and likely always will. But unless they are called on their behavior, told why it is unacceptable, and it is used as a "teaching moment" then it devolves into "kids will be kids". Until, one of them decides to escalate it to a higher level for attention and ends up really hurting someone or in jail. Will that happen in this case, unlikely. But, again, its an opportunity to educate why this behavior is not acceptable and the history it depicts from all sides.

Yea but blowing them up on national news outlets and social media outrage is stupid. It's way overkill...

I agree again. But, it does provide a venue for discussion. I am not "blowing it up" here. I am saying this type of behavior is simply not acceptable, especially in the deep south that has a stain of racism that was rampant well into the late 20th Century. Exhibitions such as this does nothing to help quell the stigma. It perpetuates it.

Are they doing it as a joke, or as part of their duty as LEO escorting a suspect after capturing him?

Again, context is king.

Nice try, I'll give you a star for effort, at least is is on-topic.

From what I read it was a legit arrest. Guy was breaking into homes. But there was no backup to pick the guy up so the officers transported him like this.

They are put on a different duty since police chief and major got complaints and said it was poor judgement.

Peace

People these days are just waiting to be offended by something so they can show how “woke” they are to the world. I give zero craps about this incident.

Are you sure he was depicting a slave master? Are you able to understand what he said at the beginning of the video?

Is there a longer video than the 16 second one in the link?

I checked the link on the twitter feed and the people are saying the one who made the accusation and posted the video doesn't go to that school and some posters that do go to that school were in the comments saying it had nothing to do with racism, slaves, masters or anything close to it. Supposedly the whole thing had to do with a $20 bet.

It is unless it doesn't fit the argument. Isn't there a school statue or mural to tear down now,

Something being blown out of proportion on the news and people eating it up and going Into a frenzy? No way!

This is absurd, not news and a waste of time.
