Ummm...no...screw that noise...we don't want or need New York city and Los Angeles determining a country wide election...no thank you...

As the OP stated...it's the obscene amounts of...a corporation is now a person...cash that floods the campaigns and BUYS an election...

What the OP failed to mention is career politicians...we need to term limit all politicians to two terms max...with a no compete clause so they can't poison the well any further than their two terms...

Direct democracy fails every time...just like socialism and communism...

I personally do not really see the benefit in shortening term limits..
If you actually run across a truly good leader, why would you want to roll the dice again??

A truly good leader seems too few and far between to me. Reagan, Kennedy... I really can't think of any others that would qualify.

The Iran-Contra Affair (Iran seems to be an American theme) and Marilyn Monroe. You're welcome.

Here is an easy fix: any candidate that wins (whether President, Senate, Congress, etc.) is automatically fitted with a non-removable shock collar. The citizens will each be given a controller with a button for each elected representative. Any time any rep lies or does anything shady if a certain percentage (say maybe 50%) of citizens push their controller buttons for said rep they get shocked like a bad dog, and if over 75 % push their buttons said rep is electrocuted and replaced!

Yes...It can be fixed

1-LET THE PEOPLES VOTE COUNT PRIMARILY OR ACKNOWLEDGE THE POPULAR VOTE OVER THE ELECTORIAL.
2-STOP LETTING OUTSIDE INVESTORS WHO GOVERN WALLSTREET RUN THE ELECTIONS.

3-DESIGN A FINANCIAL CYBER ATTACK THAT GARNISHES ELECTRONIC FINANCIAL STABILITY OFF OF ANY COUNTRY THAT RUNS A PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTACK ON THE MASSES TO MANIPULATE ELECTIONS.
They are playing unfair, why you are not...?

Great point about the electoral college. We are in 2019, the electoral college and political parties are obsolete given the technology we have to communicate. I say we abolish all political parties and vote on single candidates. No Republicans, no Democrats, no politics as team sports. Each person's vote counts the same as any others. Regardless of where they live. That's the only way to get a true representation of what America wants.

We also should take absolutely all money out of politics. Every candidate for public office including president should be throughly investigated, financially and otherwise and the results made public for everyone to look over. If you want to lead America and work for all of it's citizens your life should be an open book to every one of them. Any attempts to hide anything would by law make that person ineligible.

The President should also never be above the law. No matter what. That should be a main part of any kind of reformation. If the President breaks a law he should be charged by the Justice department and tried in court. To put the President above the law is fascist and authoritarian, and about as far from American as you can get.

SCOTUS took out our "Democracy" with the "Citizen's United" ruling. It's not totally their fault though, because the US Constitution, (the same Constitution that considered people of color of 3/5th of a "person",) as amended by Congress, sees corporations as legal entities and therefore are "persons". They ruled that $$$ equals "free speech".

It'll take an act of Congress, a congressional amendment, that must be ratified by 2/3rd of the states, to change that.

California had it on the 2016 ballot, and it passed. Kudos to California.

It would help the majority who vote to hopefully get the goals accomplished by the leader they vote for.

You are right that our 2 party system is an important part of the failure, but I think there is more to it than just that.

Yes, the duopoly is bankrupt in so many ways, but the other part is that the plutocracy and special interests are who run the government now. They probably have for decades, but they certainly do now.

My own cynical opinion is that just like the climate change has gone beyond a tipping point, so too has the political rot gone beyond a tipping point. With slight variations, we are Rome.

Don't worry about it. Only thing certain is all governments eventually fail. The good news though, they can't mess things up right now because the three branches are attacking each in full frontal assault mode. It's a beautiful thing. What is not beautiful is if one side dominates the other and crushes it. That's when it's over.

Ummm...and Greece before that...

They all rot from within...

Direct democracy sounds good on paper...but the electorate always votes in their own demise...

Hell...of the 30% voting age that actually vote...98% of them can't articulate an issue to save their lives...they simply parrot talking points...spoon fed to them by the latest card of wool pulled over their eyes...

Governing and politics would be great...if it weren't for the people in them...

The only things that will "fix" our government are;

Ebola in DC
A nuke
Zombie apocalypse
A giant meteor

But after all that?

It'll just become broken again.

We're people. Humans. We are small, greedy, flawed creatures.

No matter the system, it'll always be flawed and imperfect because we are flawed and imperfect.

when the USA first instilled a Government, Dueling was still a thing, a man stood for his convictions.

they were considered "Gentlemen"

Today that are no standards and no gentlemen and no dueling

of course the Government wont work.

( I still think dueling should still be a thing, would love to see Trump and Schiff at 20 paces or even Deniro and Trump)

You have to realize something. You can speculate as much as you want. But the people in power like things EXACTLY the way they are. Although your OP is very creative, the problem is the people in power simply do not want CHANGE.

In the past, the dollar has collapsed to nothing in value. Marx always said laissez faire capitalism is always followed by communism. This is because unfettered greed would result in the currency collapsing to nothing in value. Once the currency is worthless, people in the breadlines would demand MORE government not less. See you in the breadlines comrades!

Ummm...not according to the progs...

They believe that socialist Utopia...is just around the corner...why...if only they could get rid of that basket of deplorables...then...manna baby...

However...you know and I know...the for reals...You and I have articulated realism here enough to write a book on the subject...

We also know that no matter how sincere our view or eloquent our articulations...it matters not a whit...

If a mind is suitably washed...nay...steeped in catchphrase rhetoric...then no amount of fact or logic will sway it from that easy path of least resistance...

You really want Trump gone that bad? We're talking about a man that's terrified of slightly sloping ground and stairs.

Not that you need them, But I star almost every post you make.

You are a voice of logic and reason and a bit of wit thrown in.

DB is always good for a laugh too. I admire that.

I always try to make everything a Joke, I honestly think most things are a Joke.

but that is just me, My wife laughs at me daily.

I keep telling here it's the face I was born with.

On topic, Nothing will fix our Government except A.I.

then we will have an A.I for president, forever, until the harddrive dies......

Ummm...never sell yourself short...the ability to communicate real issues through humor...is an artform...and rare intellect...

Likewise as well...I enjoy your posts immensely...and always show that appreciation...

Strange that you mention AI as per leadership role...or at the least as advisor...

The reason I say strange...is that I was just thinking that if there was some form of hackless/non corruptable algorithm or AI than perhaps that's what we might need as a species...
