It would depend on how the offices were setup. Was it the kind we see in movies where everyone is in a big room or was it one where they have an office and a desk....

Drugs?

Caught the cops completely off guard and they were frozen with shock?

Stuff like this proves that it's not the weapon that's the problem. people just want to kill each other sometimes.

But...

That guy would have killed a lot more people if he'd had a gun.

That's not necessarily true. You can't hear a knife.

Hey dude you can check my post history and see that I am not for gun laws at all.
I say let us have rockets and tanks if we are truly free.

But it is much much much easier to get and use a pistol then to make a nuke or bomb.....
We need to be honest about these things.

So many of you getting emotional over a few of us stating a fact that you don't want to hear.

Society can't change unless we speak the whole truth.

How do you manage to kill four police officers who are armed in a room full of armed officers with a knife?

That person must have been super-human in some way it appears.

If that can happen then none of us are safe.

Police station or not, it just goes to show, when you're in your comfort areas - like the place you go to work everyday - you don't keep an eye out for stuff like this. I can't imagine my reaction in a situation like this. I think it would take my brain a few seconds to process the reality.

Stay alert no matter where you are.

lol you got me there.

And I'll give it up to the guy above who said he could of used a car.

But pretending that it's not much easier to kill with a gun than it it using other means is just silly.

Guns are a tool specifically designed to kill things.

A tool I believe it is my right to own. But I understand how efficient of a tool it is.

It's much easier to simply pick up a kitchen knife if we are honest.

The dude clearly illustrates the point, kitchen or otherwise.

I'm for gun laws mate, or at least where automatic military-grade weaponry is concerned.

France is for gun law and has strict gun control laws in place.

However, just like most other first-world nations illegal weapons are widespread and are used in most of the deadly terror attacks in the country in recent years.

On this occasion though, the nutter went old school.

The obvious question i think we all should be asking as why this Muppet went wild and committed the act of depravity?

Good grief..
A digruntled employee they are saying.
I can't help thinking there is more to it.

I have been a highly disgruntled employee treated worse than # and given life long health problems by my last job and I never contemplated stabbing my co workers or bosses.

BBC are saying theres no link to terrorism, but then again they always say that.
Time will tell.

Right! What the hell is that?

I can't believe that with our level of tech we can't take down a threat using non lethal means.

Through a net on the mfer. lol

Why would you bring non-lethal tools to a lethal fight?

It would have been a lot worse if he had an automatic rifle capable of firing hundreds of rounds per minute with a huge clip.

Just saying.

Right.
In other words, not enough people died in the way you wanted, so you can push your agenda.

Got it.

I wonder if the world has actually gone crazy, or if this sort of thing happened all the time and we just hear about it a lot more thanks to digital connectivity and 24/7 hour news cycles?

Crime statistics are down (or at least were) almost across the world, but news stories like this are increasingly common.

Work place killings normally have targets and non targets

The weapon probably made little difference and considering he worked at a police station I'm betting obtaining a firearm would of been rather easy

Imo the knive was to get up close and personal and the 4 men where the intended targets

It's very diferent when it's people you know

According to BBC:
45 year old IT employee, house being searched and anti terror officers are investigating the case.
Although not confirmed as a terror attack at this time.

Frank Gardner on BBC just said:
"On the BBC we don't like to use the word terrorism because one mans terrorist is often another mans freedom fighter."

Un freaking believable...Frank himself was shot multiple times by AQ supporters in Saudi years back, leaving him in a wheelchair.

That tells you a great deal about the BBC "news" IMHO.

Just imagine the damage if the cops weren't armed with guns.

I would do that because I don't want to hurt anyone. Not even a crazy person.

Plus I think it would be better for the society to learn why they do these things.

Plus we might be able to help the person change and get better.

I've had to deal with violent people putting knives and guns in my face several times. I haven't yet felt like I had no choice but to kill the guy.

Yes, we should study them.

But that does not mean we should try and reason with them nether, nor take them down in a nonlethal manner when other people's lives could be in danger.

Personally i think he got what he asked for.

I've had people put knives in my face also, people that are going to stab you do so, they don't pretend.

Something is telling me that media will try to paint him white.
Nothing against black people at all but...islamic terrorists aren't really white at all.

White is a colour(Technically the absence of colour) whereas Islam is a religion.

Terrorists, on the other hand, can be any colour or religious orientation.

Just a thought.

Does the amount of people killed really matter or are you just pushing an agenda?

Yeah it does, how can you be so blind to what you just said, you would be happier if more people were murdered today?
