Well ATS seems to have been quiet for several weeks based on hits to replies and the such so I thought I would post this out as it would have some sort of effect on ATS down the road if Congress would pull a stunt like San Francisco did recently on the NRA. Its very cute how the leaders of our sick country are trying to foist the blame on 8chan. Actually, why is it that Twitter, Facebook,CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS and the rest get a pass along with Maxine Waters, Rouge Restaurant Owners and crazy reporters? Hmm.

Watkins’ appearance before the committee was prompted by a series of racist shootings across the world where attackers posted manifestos outlining their hateful, white supremacist motives to the imageboard prior to opening fire. The latest attack prefaced by a manifesto in the United States occurred last month in El Paso, Texas, resulting in the deaths of over 20 people and drawing the attention of lawmakers who compelled Watkins to speak on Thursday. “This is at least the third act of white supremacist extremist violence linked to your website this year,” committee leaders wrote to Watkins last month. “Americans deserve to know what, if anything, you, as the owner and operator, are doing to address the proliferation of extremist content on 8chan,” A week later, the committee subpoenaed Watkins for the testimony he plans to give today.

So how do you like living in Hell today?

I've never heard of 8chan and duckduck'd it. There is a Wikepedia page describing it and I don't think I'll be following any links to the site.

From Wikepedia

the site is linked to harmful activism, in particular that of the alt-right, as well as to multiple mass shootings.[4][5][6] The site is also known for its presence of child pornography

That's all it took for me! If that description is true, it's fine by me that the owner gets called up to answer questions. Who would host a site like that and further more, who would visit it?

Why does 8Chan get all the credit for these attacks when information is posted all over the Internet? Probably because it is not about that and these people are scared because Q was calling them out on these boards. Fog of war...

I don't have a say in this other than look beyond Wikidpedia, educated and credentialed individuals don't use Wikipedia, hell it isn't even an accepted scholarly source.

Do better.

From what I have heard, places like 4chan and 8chan are where people can go to whistleblow or leak important information anonymously. Tptb hate anything to do with anything like that, so they are going to tell people to stay away from it, demonize it, etc. I am sure there has been an idiot or 2 who posted something bad, but that does not speak for the whole idea of the site.

We know 8chan is a beacon of peace, and the fine folks on that site may have done some 'things', but 8cahn users are promoters of free speech and are generally good people, most good people on ats are active 8chan users.

The country needs more outlets like 8chan. I hope those niche dark sites keep popping up and embolden more users to promote peace and free speech.

8chan = unsung heroes and will be defended to death by ats's best!

The only slippery slope with that is if 8chan gets shut down how many open information forms with they go after next? You have to ask yourself are they going after 8 chan or are they going after hard to monitor open information forms. Say you wanted to drop files or sensitive information to the public but you didnt want to be traced or found. those sites are good for that, iv even heard that the LAPD police officers who found disturbing photos on anthony weiners laptop of hillary posted them to 8 chan or 4 chan. how true that is i dont know but you for sure have to look at it from both sides because if we give up open information sites were stepping closer and closer to Chinese dictatorship witch is what the new world order really wants i think. a reply to: LogicalGraphitti

Nice troll....... I look forward to the response in this thread from your main ATS account.....

In other news.....

8 Chan is notorious for its extremely racist posts and horrible content...

That being said I don't think any speech should be limited....... I would rather know who the outright racists are and people bent on doing harm.....

There have been many shooters who hail from that site, which makes me wonder WHY, with what is posted, the red flags are ignored.....

That being said 8chans own founder recently came out in favor of its # down, because of the rhetoric....

It's an interesting thing to see honestly, and people should be paying attention.....

Places like the chans (there are more than just 4 and 8, btw - 2 is really strange for example) have existed since the dawn of the internet and will continue to exist as long as there is an internet regardless of what techniques governments use to try and quash such sites.

They serve a vital purpose that it seems some may not realize. Other than the aforementioned drop for whistleblowers, they serve as spaces in which free expression and the exchange of ideas can be fostered.

Yes, there will be hatred and other ugliness present, as these things are part of the human condition. There are also examples of anons helping to fight child trafficking.

The current demonization of the chans is indicative of the threat felt by those whom would rather control all thought and expression.

Like I said in my reply, I don't know anything about 8chan and said "if the description is true" then I want no part of it. I've been educated now and there are obviously other opinions. Still not convinced though.

It's not the "Dark Net". If 8ch.net returns, Deny Ignorance and explore it for yourself
You're free to seek other content than that which offends your sensibilities. Strictly a choice.

As in real life, you may be confronted with scenarios/ideas you find uncomfortable and/or taboo. Ignore them & move on. Flip the channel. Click no links. Don't go there. Ignorance IS bliss.

Mining involves a wealth of hardship, pain & suffering to get the precious gems from the ground.
Such is Data Mining on the 'chans', specifically 8chan.

💥Jim Watkins: 8chan Will be Back Online in a Few Days💥

In order to prevent future service interruptions, he’s building his own version of Cloudflare—the tech provider that cut service to 8chan. Watkins expects 8chan to be back online in a few days. Q may return once 8chan is back online.

Listen to the video interview w/Watkins. Seems Congress was more interested in Mr. Watkins intel connections and the 8ch intel honeypot.

Can't wait for 8ch to return (possibly tomorrow/next few days) so I can post my Manifesto.

Kidding of course but I do frequent 8ch alot. 😇

Wasn't at least one of the manifestos in question first posted to someone else who then dropped it on one of the chans?

Being a whistle blower is a dangerous position to be in, the Clinton body count is one red flag here. Testifying against them has been shown to be bad for ones health. There is a lot of ugly information out there, too disturbing for most to even consider. I do not see how these deeper issues can be resolved by pretending these situations do not exist and just cover it up. When we live in a world where reporting a crime is treated more severe than the actual crime I am not surprised that a few people will snap and lose it.

That is exactly the reason. Tptb hated both chans because they are free open source by open source. They acted in a way gab does full or somewhat of freedom of speech unlike Facebook, Twitter where any wrong think can get you banned or posting limited.
