Does it matter why someone chooses to legally exercise their second amendment right? That's their business.

Is open carry a Constitutional Right?

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Bear v to carry or bring something.

Seems the answer to that is, uhm, YES!

Or to hold, to possess. Not necessarily openly wherever one goes, but in one's home or property. But I'm not sure what the SCOTUS has to say about that.

But it seems to reason that because there *are* laws restricting who can openly carry and where, it's not absolute and more a states' rights issue.

You and your lady friend should practice some reading comprehension.

I never once said I open carry so maybe you would get a better answer from someone who does.

People legally and psychologically secure in themselves don't need to let everyone know either by open carrying, that's kinda my point.

I get the point that you are scared of these people.

Scared?

Did you miss where I said I conceal carry?

I don't need to prove my masculinity to myself or others by carrying a rifle, or a firearm openly on my hip, in public. Some do, though. Hence my original point. :/

It doesn’t mean that you aren’t scared.
In fact, it would indicate that you are scared of something.

As if somehow the problem is that tiny minority of law abiding gun owners who open carry!! How many shooting sprees have legally licensed open carriers gone on in any of those stores?

Wait, now I get it, the sign will stop a shooting spree! Someone who was going to shoot the place up will see that sign and instead put their gun back in the car and come in the store and buy up knitting supplies and knit everyone a nice scarf instead!

Not really. Just better to be prepared should the need arise.

How many people open carried before?

I think I've only ever seen one in a hardware store.

It's more common in certain areas. It is not unusual to see someone open carrying in Alaska, mostly because a lot of folks pack big bore handguns for bear and moose protection and you can't easily conceal a 7.5" barrel.

Yeah, it's expected in some places, but in a Walmart the only reason I can see is to intimidate people who it makes uncomfortable.

Face it, we live in a different reality here. In many cities guns are only seen in the hands of gangs and the reality is different. Here my first thought is what a nice gun, in Seattle it would be find cover fast.

I do understand that. My point, mostly, was that for us up here you do sometimes run into the store (not Walmart or Fred's for me, but 3 Bears or Carr's are my go tos) when you're on your way out to fish, hunt, or hike and if you're packing a bear gun it's not likely to be a concealable weapon for the most part. I absolutely do not feel like leaving it in your vehicle is ever a good option up here. Hell, they break into vehicles in packed parking lots in broad daylight all over town these days (a stand your ground castle law would change that quick, but that's for a different topic). So the options are go to the river with a smaller caliber or unarmed (neither an option in my book), go without whatever item you needed to run into the store to grab in the first place (again, not a preferred option), or put the piece on your belt and conduct your business like a responsible adult living in a country founded on freedoms rather than fear.

Sounds like you are scared enough to carry a concealed weapon.
Whatever, I hope you never have to use it. Even if you win, you lose.

Gosh, I bet there is no Walmart in America where anyone has ever been robbed or assaulted in the parking lot. Surely no all night grocery store in the hood could have an unsafe parking lot! Where exactly did the concept of "need" come from?

The one person I saw open carrying had a small, discreet holster on their hip. The only reason I even noticed what it was was because it looked exactly like the one a cop carries, only a bit smaller. It wasn't that different from a two-way radio holder or something similar. I had to wonder how many people actually noticed it at all.
