So much is lost without voice tone and body language, I think we really need to expand the written language to include those things more..

Exhibit A: Sarcasm needs a font.. a universal one that everyone understands.

I donโ€™t know who I should call for that... but I think it is VERY needed..

Sarcasm is most biting when there's some ambiguity.

Best response right there, a
is all that's needed, unless you're truly dense that is. lol

There would be a lot less misunderstandings on the internet if more people actually used emoticons/emoji's. Sure, they're silly, but all we have are words, we don't get to see peoples facial expressions nor tone of voice. Emoticons/emoji's are the best way to assist with that. XD

Even that stupid XD I have a bad habit of doing is one of them. lol

I feel sticking your tongue out "
" ruins the beauty of sarcastic humor.

I always just go on the basis that, if I'm not discussing something serious, I'm probably being sarcastic.

OP, the above is an example of how we expressed sarcasm and disinterest in the 90's.

e.g.

Your grandma fell in the shower and broke her hip? That sux! XD lol brbr

Why do we need a font, if we have plenty of punctuation to signify sarcasm?

I like where you are going but italics already has a designation..

What??

Like book titles or something..

On a serious note , I wonder if some regular nobodies , through social media and such could establish one

Absolutely...

Sarcasm is not always meant in a silly way.. it is more fluid than that

God bless the Swedish chef. We could use his wisdom in these trying times.

Also, having a specific typeface for sarcasm--at least for me, a simple /s is sufficient. This is the most meaningful thing I am likely to say today. Carry on.

I donโ€™t think so...

I think either you say something ridiculous, in a normal voice tone or you say something normal in a sarcastic voice tone..

If you say something normal in a normal voice tone... I think more often than not you will just be confusing....or an @$$.

Then it can't really be interpreted through a font. It's something you either pick up on an intuitive level or you don't.

It's just one of those things that gets lost in translation.

That's part of its appeal!
