It's also very socialist according to some opinions, the woman wear mini skirt's everywhere - which was the fashion at the time and was missed by
trek fan's when the next generation turned the uniforms into androgonisers, the original series meanwhile tackled problem's of the day, had the first
inter-racial kiss on a TV program (science fiction fan's tend to be a far less bigoted bunch than many other group's) and introduced the term "red
alert" which of course seem's to contradict it's seeming Utopian idealistic future paradise - Utopian but definitely not communist as the people of
the earth in star trek lore are pretty much free to do anything they want, even more free than in a capitalist society and while it is not there drive
capitalism does still exist as you have collectors, private buyers, rich and even poor but the poor are not hungry, unclothed or un-sheltered the sole
drive they have is to better themselves - actually why can't the real world be like that - well simply because we as a species are not made in that
way there will always be jealousy, greed, violence and power mongers.
Also on a more serious note it made submarine combat sexy again - did I say submarine maybe you misheard me "balance of terror", "the wrath of Khaan"
- yes I know it was a later movie but? and I did say that, hiding in nebula's using depth charge like torpedo's to flush one another out, running
silent in balance of terror they even acted quietly as if you could hear something in space and all jumped when Spock accidentally activated an alarm
on the bridge.
In the original series while it was far slower to push the feminine right's than later show's it did actually push them just not as we see it today
as it has moved on so far - some would say too far and has created an anti male climate today.
Alien races - particularly the antagonists were often inspired by factions in the real world.
The original Klingon's were very much Cossack's in space if not so much commies they still pandered to the stereotype of eastern conquerors and
savages, later this was washed out of there character and they became the knobbly headed (always remind's me of a Cornish pasty and so makes me
hungry) aliens we came to love in TNG and then the awful and rubbish looking recreation of them in Discovery (that show goes too far in so many areas
but was good in it's own right - it just and very definitely was not star trek alternative timeline or not but that is another debate).
The Romulans also potrayed another aspect of the cold war and were allied to the Klingon's at time's.
But other antagonists were genuine science fiction.
TNG was it's genuine successor but actually HERESY they will cry I loved both Voyager and DS9 which were actually so much better than TNS for so very
many reason's (and while Voyager had a female captain it also had a hot chick cyborg as it's version of commander Data added later in the show as of
course Data was an inferior answer to one of the best characters the entire franchise ever had Leonard Nimoy's Mr Spock.
By the time of TNG the ferengi originally intended to a new enemy race were representing the worst excess of a capitalist society but they ended up
instead being assigned the role of comedic side kick's to the galaxy's already established antagonist races, the Romulan's were made more mysterious
and dangerous being the original real threat before the introduction of several other races including the Borg, the Klingon's were made likable and
honor was now there drive creating a whole raft of Trekky's that would deck there heads for conventions in what look's like a Cornish pasty.
And then we had the infamous Cardassians whom before they invaded US pop culture as a family of shape shifting alien's with big bums were first a new
antagonist race in star trek whom were supposedly lizard descended being's with head marking's resembling a spoon.
One thing is certain star trek is brilliant, crazy but brilliant and there is nothing and never will be anything like it despite net flix and co's
attempt to neuter the franchise.
The new movies were controversial to fan's but still brilliant.
