Trumps order for companies to return is legal and has precedence.

I read the thread about the order from Trump and I was very disappointed. I heard the same old emotional personally insulting canned comments we’ve been hearing for three years. Trump is dumb, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, it’s unconstitutional, Trump is a dictator, Trump is an idiot ...... etc

A couple people touched on his authority lightly early in the thread. Burdman hit the nail on the head without a supporting link and it was ignored. It got three stars until I happened upon it. (4)

Jongoa linked the congressional act that gives the authority. It was correct and had zero stars.

Loam hit the nail on the head with backing. (One star)

Those few comments were out of 15 pages!

It seems that instead of researching the issue. Just about everyone was more content to mock and ridicule Trump.

Which is the reason for this thread I think it needs more detail to bring into perspective.

Title 50, §§1701–1707 US code

Has been invoked multiple times. The act includes targeting theUS economy as a national threat. To be used it needs a emergency order from POTUS or a act of Congress.

It gives the president the authority to sanction or freeze US companies operating abroad. Which is the club that Trump can hold over the American companies heads to get them to return or cease business .

Not to mention that three people have been arrested.

It was signed and used once by Jimmy Carter.

Used

8 times by Bill Clinton.

8 Times by George Bush

7 times by Obama

It has already been used 4 times by Trump

That gives trumps order abundant precedence and firm backing in the federal courts.

I hope I don’t get in trouble for naming members especially when I’m giving them a pat on the back.

Hats off to you guys thanks for doing research .

Treasury department

Wiki

I’m sure I’ll get some flame. But I’m OK with that in order to straighten the situation out .

Rant off

Research is King.

I hope over time we return more to the days when supporting material was almost a requirement.

What I see, not just on this site, but everywhere, are people who instantly adopt the first opinion that confirms their bias.

One would think in the age of fake news, that extra care would be taken to see whether or not some opinions have a factual basis.

Deny ignorance. It's what makes humanity's future a hopeful one.

With respect to the actual topic of the president's authority, there is no question that Congress granted it to the office in 1977.

While the media and the twitterati are making fun of the president, I'd be willing to bet that China is taking the threat very seriously, as are many US corporations.

S&F for the thread Fallingdown
The hot, ignorant takes in the other thread buried the needed facts.

Who's going to pay for the infra structure the returning corps will need to gear up mfg. again. The stock holders, the company themselves? I think we all know it will be the middle class taxpayers, just like always with the WARS for profit.

And with everyone working according to trump. Who will staff the returning industries. Mexicans...lol

Let's be practical....Legal or not, it just ain't happenin. Americans are so addicted to Walmart cheap sh!t, they will never kick the habit.

I'm sure China fears this and, naturally, Trump already anticipated enacting this next step.

The theft of US intellectual property, China has been continuously engaging in is, indeed, a national emergency...and Trump has consistently been outspoken against it.

It is a form of war. Costs can be high in war, but people do what they need to do to survive. I think things may very well get a lot hotter then most people expect. There is no telling what the Chinese will do, if they begin to fail. No one is blinking on either side. Fortunately our leader has good track record lately at winning. He may just win this one too. We have been losing through countless administrations before the current one.

I maintain his words dont mean anything. It would be the death knell for his campaign if he froze large American companies from doing business with China.

It takes time to work out new supply chains and move their labor operations to other countries (Vietnam etc) with slave labor wages. And you better believe that's what will happen before anything ever comes back to America. This idea that he's going to force large companies to move back to America is laughable. Capitalism dictates these companies are going to find the next cheapest route. And that isn't in this country.

Not to even mention how bad it would tank the economy. China is a problem, but the way Trump is going about it is straight up idiotic. I'm genuinely curious how he did in his economic classes in college, but it seems he sued to keep his transcripts secret. If he does go through with it, I can only assume he's tired of being President and is trying everything he can to get this millstone off his neck. No one in their right mind would cause a worldwide recession.

"Trade wars are good and easy to win"- is a statement that should have made it apparent how little he understood about any of it.

Right...trump can't even keep a viable staff or lock up Hillary... It's gonna take more than pie in the sky unicorn dreams and a loud talkin BS artist.
He needs to unite the parties along with the American taxpayers. Instead he alienates everyone except his right wing base. I don't think his control driven narssistic ego will allow him to change and bring us together.

Who says they’re actually going to move?

They could just shut down overseas in the interm and damage China’s economy even more .

Actually I think that’s what the plan is .

There seems to be a whole lot of things going on behind the curtain over China. It's way bigger than a trade issue if what is going on with Eric Schmidt of google/alphabet!

This lady does a great job tying up connections. Give her a listen and see if it floors your ability to comprehend the level of treason American Corporations have over our government.

The center and right don't believe in unicorns. I think you are referring to another group. Quite ofter things move more slowly then we anticipate. As for Hillary.... I believe her days of freedom are nearing a count down stage.

As for BS artist.... I used to have a friend who would say "Money talks, $hit walks. Pretty crude, but you get the general idea. Trump is pulling money levers big time. The last admin did a lot of walking

I guess that depends on what you're talking about. Economics isn't something he's ever come close to showing a rudimentary understanding of.

If you're talking about division, inflaming tensions and things like that, it's obvious he has that down pat. But that's something I think is just second nature at this point.

You have a point. What will that do to our economy? Think it thru...

I still maintain, a tariff war and a trickle down economy, simply can't coexist. Not with the 30 trillion debt and growing. We can't even pay the interest with our GDP. This is a global economy, based on speculation and corporations are owned by more than just American stockholders.
