So less of a civil war and more of counter-revolutionary war in which the people overthrow elements of government that go against the grain of the ideal, which would in fact actually be a fight for the government against those that wish to fundamentally change the doctrine to a more socialist (of some flavor) society.

Counter Revolutionary War sounds better than Civil War part 2.

So are we heading for a new civil war?

yvancross.blogspot.com...

As noted in the article, civilizations are held together by fragile social bonds. If those are fractured then we return to the law of the jungle. Look at Libya today - that is what a "modern" civil war would look like. And one thing to keep in mind, even a small breakdown in society could destroy the infrastructure enough that people would starve, especially in the food deserts we call urban areas. Are we on our way to this future?

Civil War:

No, I don't think so. First of all, the majority of Americans live a life of comfort. Life here in America is not hard, comparatively. While politics and social issues have greatly defended Americans, I don't think we are anywhere CLOSE to a civil war.

The worse I could see happening is the vitriol and anger getting worse and worse....building more and more, until you start to see Far left and Far right groups spring up , and clash which each other in greater frequency. The vast majority of Americans, however, will still be content sitting on their couches, arguing from the sidelines.

Civil War would really only happen in the US if the economy completely tanked. And if that did happen, I think we'd have bigger problems to worry about than civil war.

It won't happen here.

Like someone else said, who are YOU personally willing to kill, right now, because they support Donald Trump? Or because they support Hillary Clinton? Sure, we might argue with co-workers, friends on social media, family, etc. But very few people are actual extremists, where they are far enough Right or far enough Left to want to actually start some kind of revolution or rebellion through violent or any means necessary.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The U.S. military has historically struggled in counterinsurgency environments. The defenders of democratic societies or nation-state sovereignty are unlikely to engage in conventional warfare in open plains against the U.S Army, Marines and Air Force. However, a blend of conventional and guerilla/insurgency warfare may take place, this was last seen in the Vietnam War.

The international community support of corporate factions, political factions or the government of the day would likely influence the outcome of the war. Consider for a moment, remaining support for Communist insurgency's or movements, dried up with fall of the Soviet Union. Also if the war occurs in the U.S., the current international rules-based order would cease to exist.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

No we are not. We should be but Americans are far too weak/docile and brainwashed to Ever carry out a civil war/revolution. They could take out entire cities at this point, no one will do anything...
I think we should all have been staging mass boycotts and protests in the streets for years now over the ridiculous amount of obvious corruption in our gov but it just won't happen

I think you've got it all wrong. Your kind of scenario won't be what happens. Some incident will happen somewhere, and in the mind of the participants it happens to, it will be - to them - the straw that breaks the camel's back. They're going to go postal; it will be reported on the news, then people in other places are just gonna let loose. And America will go up in smoke because of it. I've said for years the type of incident that could set it all off will be something mundane and trivial like somebody going through the drive-through at McDonald's and they get only four chicken nuggets when they should have received five. That will set them off, then other people who are on edge, and let's face it - there are a lot of things going wrong in America today and it's causing more and more people to be on edge - others, from various locations around America are going to say "This is it!" Let's burn stuff!" Something as simple as that will probably set the whole thing off. It won't be a "civil war." It will be anarchy and who can stop nationwide anarchy?

Edit to add:
And your average Joe American Citizen won't have been the instigator, but when it comes to mobs burning down your neighborhood, they'll have to do something to protect their family. Wouldn't you do all you could to protect your home and family?

Remember Lincoln's words, a house divided against itself cannot stand. We are seeing a breakdown in marriage, fraternal and religious groups losing members, and people isolating themselves into internet ghettos where they tell each other how special they are for having extreme hate and then directing that hate to the "outsiders."

True, when people have their food, porn and jobs they are not likely to go crazy, but if the economy were to go, or if the Democrats get in and start taking people's rights away, then that is when things can get really bad.

I hope that it doesnt happen because of the economic implications. In a sense, this has been rapidly developing since the 1990s with the election of Bill Clinton. The sense of it, the feel of it then was that the veil of civilization was waxing thin and becoming very frayed. That period of time saw the escalation of the "culture war" and we know who has been losing that.

It seems to me that even now we are in something of the cold war stage of a near civil war and the result has been that the nation as a whole has become pock marked with no-go zones for many of us; places we dont feel welcome. And those no-go zones have expanded in size. So for example, as an old white guy, ten years ago, I wouldnt consider going to visit downtown El Paso, Texas, today, I wouldnt want to stop anywhere within a 50 mile radius of El Paso Texas.

I cant predict where this is headed, but I am damned glad I got out when I did. The nearest high crime Metro area is 90 miles or more away from where we live today. And we are beginning to see the break down in civil society in that Metro area. And really, thats how it all starts.

Ooh look, its another "modern civil war in America" thread....

I'm no old fuddy duddy,I'm also no spring chicken. I'm in my mid forties and have heard my fair share of this rhetoric.

In the late 80's and early 90's I would hear of the impending "race war".

In the early 2000's it was martial law, fema camps and plastic caskets...

In 2012 nibiru..

Then the warpigs tried the race angle again with BLM in 15-16.

I'm not buying that We are headed for civil war, and when I hear the rhetoric now I see it for what it is..

Fear propaganda designed to appeal to the disenfranchised or downtrodden.

The fact is your average American ,the silent sane majority, do not look forward to,or fantasize about shedding their neighbors blood in the streets. Do not fall victim to the hype of the virulent vocal minority..

For the record I'm not a democrat or a republican. I am a fiscally conservative libertarian who supports term limits in the Senate and the House. I think it's The woman's right to choose (abortion) and I am pro LEGAL immigration as my great great grandparents didn't have a problem waiting at Ellis island..

I honestly think it's why the zombie apocalypse theme is so popular.. it's normal people fantasizing that they no longer would have to go to work,or pay taxes. They become free of the burdens of society, escapism at its finest...

Prepping for emergencies is smart.
Being as self sufficient as possible
(Gardening,Hunting, raising livestock) is smart and economical.

Wishing for the madness of a true hot war in America or encouraging it is ..insane.

And exactly who do you think will be fighting and dying in this civil war?

The banksters?

The politicians?

The elite?

The deep state?

Nope, none of the above, rest assured they will be safe in their bunkers in New Zealand,or their yachts in the Caribbean,or their compounds in south America.

So who wins that war really? They get everything they want and we lose our families our homes for what?

To do the population culling for them. ? .

Then what?
Well, most likely all our rights will be lost when they swoop in when it's over and rewrite the constitution.

Please take a few minutes and listen to this song until the end.

Respectfully,
~meathead

If we do have a civil war, it will be Democrats who start it. With the Ginsburg troubles, Biden troubles, and judges taking the President's side again and again, liberals are losing hope, and becoming frustrated. They are almost to the point of committing random violence against Trump supporters.

I experienced one last week who should have been "red flagged" for being a potential violent offender.

Of course not. They've got their heads glued into their cell-phones and are utterly clueless of their surroundings and what's going on in America today. That's part of the problem. "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

These things happen in cycles.

A victory is won, a new order is established. That order flourishes for a time, then gets corrupt. Opposing ideas take hold, society becomes divided, then there's violence, and when the dust settles, the next order begins. The specific details and reasons (excuses?) for violence change, but the pattern remains the same. I wonder if it's just the nature of things.

I think most of us have an idea of where we are in this cycle now.

The only way to save America is by turning back to God. Otherwise, America (Babylon) will go up in smoke.
