Trump blames mass shootings on mentally ill, calls for more mental institutions

That's not going to work. You'll get a lot of people being locked up, but you won't prevent more than maybe 1 shooting if any at all in 100 years.
It takes a sociopath to kill that many at once right? Well guess what - there's no reliable test to measure someone's empathy.

Is that freedom? To lock people up because they enjoy conspiracies, or got out of the box ideas?
What's the definition of "mentally ill" in this case? And how do you want to find the people? Will it be enough when one person says "he is scary"?
Internet history? Isn't that making everybody guilty until proven innocent? Which would be impossible.
Can't you see how very dangerous it is?

Let me tell you a story: There was a woman having a schizophrenic episode in a small town in Italy, because the hospital wasn't equipped to treat her they called an ambulance to have her transported to Genua.
On arrival it got really bad the woman was resisting, got violent and irrational, they had to put her under medication. Everybody was completely convinced that lady was just really badly mentally ill.

Later it turned out they got the wrong person.

Point is "mentally ill" is no precise definition of anything at all. Everybody, absolutely everybody can be made appear crazy if you know what you're doing, or if you meet them under the wrong circumstances.
This is very dangerous.

Knowing myself and having lived in a family with mentally unstable people, I can confirm that day-to-day, practically everybody could be seen as "mentally ill." In fact, if somebody doesn't act a little crazy once in a while, that's a sure sign to me that they probably have a real screw loose.

I'm no Scientologist, but I kind of have to agree with them that psychiatry is probably about as accurate and effective as voodoo. Because voodoo can actually work and help people just about as much. The only thing psychiatry has going for it these days is anti-depressants, which is a total crapshoot as to whether it helps you or whether it makes you want to kill yourself or others.

EDIT: Although anybody with a big, aggressive tattoo on their face should be immediately locked up. That's a sure sign of craziness.

Haha, "crime against aesthetics" is not really...practical. It would get very expensive very fast. I hate tattoos if you're no Māori you don't need one.

Organize crime doesn't have a draft, either, but people still join up. Armies have been created and wars have been fought forever because the people in power -- whether they're kings, emperors, or capitalist industrialists -- want to protect their interests. So they send their subjects or employees out to kill or be killed. And these days because they're partially hidden as they control the puppet strings, they can actually play both sides of the field at the same time. They're ready to make money regardless who wins.

They just call it "patriotism," or label you a coward if you don't want to get killed to protect some rich guy's stock portfolio.

Precisely correct. We are paying the price for going to the so called community based mental health system in the 1980s. Sad really, so many lives ruined.

It was a sarcastic response to the prior poster that they left off some accusation against trump that has no basis.

One thing I've learned in 36 years of never ending severe mental illness is when people call for more attention to be called to it, the word "Help" is only for a few, and it usually comes with a cute little attention to me me me campaign attached to it. So you'll forgive me if the darling of the moment cries of omg MENTAL ILLNESS fall on deaf ears. As a child, I was a damn guinea pig and over the years I've done a better job at dealing, adapting and surviving than any doctor or expert could have done. So again forgive me if I seem jaded but I know as the news cycles roll, so does the caring for this topic.
