TEHRAN, Iran — The Latest on tensions in the Persian Gulf (all times local):

2:40 p.m.

Iran says a fighter jet has gone down in the south of the country near the Persian Gulf, with two pilots surviving the crash.

The state-run IRNA news agency quoted a local official as saying the crash was caused by a technical problem. Abdolhossein Rafipour, the governor of Tangestan, says the plane went down near the coastal town at 12:30 local time (0800 GMT).

The purpose of Sunday’s flight was not immediately clear. Regular patrol flights are common in the region.

[BREAKING] THE LATEST - Iranian fighter jet crashes near Persian Gulf

This crash coincidentally occurs around the same time that Iran is now allegedly said to have seized yet another tanker. (See ATS Thread).

Today has suddenly become a busy news day in the aftermath of two mass shootings in North America and a couple of mentionable incidents in the Persian Gulf (jet crash and alleged seizure of another tanker by Iran)...

So many obvious things going on. A distraction of sorts?

Haha. I was gonna say an Isreali F35 was the technical issue but we probably will never know.

Eta...it would make sense....

I haven't been able to ascertain which came first, but if the vessel was seized first then electromagnetic interference comes to mind if it wasn't blown out of the sky conventionally.

Probably just one of those coincidences but I do expect to start seeing some of our exotic weaponry come into play in these "short-of-war" skirmishes.

yup

I've seen some detail......on 3 types of craft goin over, one a triangle, I only get em for 8 seconds , but I'm located near Sherman Texas where Ratheon calibrates drones as they go over.....I saw a modified trailing edge of a B2....less of that high aspect wing look...shortening the tips...and an extra point pointing to the rear...and it was harder to keep zeroed in on it, seemed slippery to my eyes..... ..it was a new something

Like in N Korea....if we had tr3b's...wouldn't we have em hanging cloaked right over the area?

It's really global involvement over with the tankers...China go figure...is getting oil the U. S. is sanctioning, so hence the heat getting pumped up we don't read too much about, China and 4 others....the powers that be who knows what we'll witness. We are getting scary over there. Pilots got out cool

You can't tell that from those images. Could simply be an engine fire or catastrophic engine failure. Iranian mil aircraft of that era regularly crash.

They lost an F-4D last year from the same airbase.
