Population of Countries

Was using Google as a search engine, having perused forecast that the world's population will surpass 8 billion in a couple of years or *at least* by 2025.

So I started looking at individual countries.

Check this website out:

Population projections

Look at the figures. Looks slightly correct, right?

Scroll down to "Nigeria".

Uhhh...what? At first, I thought - a mistake right?

But look at the other countries' data. All seemingly slightly correct.

Occam's razor says it's a mistake - a zero was missed out right? All the media outlets keep bangibg on about how Nigeria's population will "surpass" the United States. They keep telling us - oh, Nigeria is one of the world's most populous nations...

EDIT: Look at "Congo" too (that is DRC's flag) - 7 million?

It's a mistake...

From 2006 to 2017 the population grew from 140.000.000 to 190.000.000 roughly.

In your list it should be in between Pakistan and Bangladesh

Helluva lotta mistakes for *some* countries but not the majority of others...

If you look at the individual page for countries the numbers are correct so I assume somebody screwed up with some excel sheet and the data engine is just rolling with it...

It's wrong. The website has crap data.

The population of Nigeria is currently 200 million. It is increasing c. 2.6% per annum In five years the population will be 220 million and not the erroneously cited 18 million. They at least missed out a zero.

I was saying the same thing as well...until I saw Congo, Ethiopia etc...

Well it's either a zero issue or they mixed it up with Niger, which is right next door on the map and on the population list, so maybe something got goofed due to that.

There are other "errors" as well. Look at South Africa, currently with 55 million people and the projection is a 90% decrease, which is also basically the exact amount of the black and colored population. I wonder if the other "errors" correlate with demographic groups, either by race, religion, etc. Maybe this is the UN's depopulation plan accidentally exposed for what they are really planning. J/K, but only in some ways.
