This just feels like North Korea's maneuvering to me. Pound chest, get talks with U.S. and validation on world stage. Do nothing differently.

That could very well be the case. Iran and North Korea are tight with each other. When Iran found it's nuclear centrifuges knocked offline during the Stuxnet virus incident, North Koreans were the ones who came in to help get them back up and running. These two countries are definitely sharing information and ideas with each other and they are definitely two birds of a feather.

They are probably realizing that following John Kerry's advice is bad for them in the long run.
