Immigration Officials At O’Hare Detain 3 Children Who Are U.S. Citizens

Yesterday, July 18th, 2019, there was an immigration incident at O’Hare International airport, in Chicago, Illinois that involved three children. The children, aged 9, 10 and 13, arrived in the company of a relative who was not the children’s parents, as they are admitted illegal immigrants. This resulted in a U.S. congresswoman, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Mexican Consulate in Chicago to intervene and immigration activists to protest. The article didn’t mention what party the congresswoman was affiliated with, but I had a hunch it was going to be the Democratic party. I looked it up and she was indeed a Democrat. She felt the action was nothing less than kidnapping by the U.S. Government. Go figure a Democrat thinks our laws are unjust. And how was a protest organized so quickly?

The children’s mother said she was fearful because, though her children are U.S. citizens, she isn’t. If you are not a U.S. citizen and you are permanently living in the United States, that means you are illegal, does it not? Correct me if I’m wrong. The woman, who asked only to be identified by her first name of Sylvia, said she has applied for legal status but was afraid she would be detained if she went to pick up her kids because she believes officials want to arrest the majority of illegal immigrants. I thought illegal immigration was a crime? Isn’t that what immigration officials are supposed to do – deal with illegal immigrants? The woman should be worried – she has committed a crime.

The last line of the article states, “There’s been no indication of large-scale ICE raids in Chicago since Sunday, when (President) Trump said the campaign would begin, but the prospect of the raids have created fear among immigrants.” When will these people realize that when you break an immigration law, that is a crime?

Sounds like the kid were traveling with an adult who may not have had a valid visa... so what are officials supposed to do? Ignore three kids traveling with an adult who is not a parent and also with an invalid visa?

That's not how you're supposed to use anchor babies.

Stories not spice enough, IMO.

Should have said they were stripped searched or had one of their toys crushed while officers laughed and the children cried.

Well, the story did mention that two of the children had unicorn backpacks and were given food and drink. Ha ha!

This sounds like both parents were illegal immigrants and have been here for a long time, as the kids were born here.

It's a situation we have to figure out. Birth right Citizenship of children of people who are not US Citizens or Legal US residents should not be allowed IMO. Many countries don't have birthright citizenship for non citizens or illegal residents.

Anchor Babies, yes I know the Left hates that name, are used to make the public feel bad that the parents got here ilegally.

Even Democrats, once upon a time, were for eliminating the problem. In 1993, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) introduced legislation that would limit birthright citizenship to the children of U.S. citizens and legally resident aliens.

About 300,000 kids a year are born to parents who are illegally in the US. Rough estimates are that there are 4.1M to 4.4M such anchor babies here.

I don't think that illegal alien parents should get a "Get out of Deportation" card simply because they popped out a baby on US soil. There needs to be some consequences for this.

It's a huge problem with over 4 Million kids born here to illegal aliens.

Let's play devil's advocate. A MS-13 couple, who arrived here illegally, give birth to a child on US soil and are found to have committed murder in their home country as well as here in the US. Are we just going to let the parents stay in the US simply because they had a kid?

It's an aspect of our immigration policies that has been abused. There is even a birthing vacation industry where people travel to the US solely to give birth to a new US citizen.

MS-13 is a hoax. Mexico only sends their finest and most bestest contributors. All illegals are innocent of sneaking in because some mean coyote tossed them over the border.

Get rid of the 14th Amendment. It was implemented during the Reconstruction for former slaves. It is obsolete and now creates way more problems.

Oooh! Long as we're erasing Amendments all willy-nilly, let's scrap the 2nd while we're at it! Heck, let's just do away with all of them! That'll show 'em!

Seriously though, put it to the people. if they want to scrap any or all of the Amendments, fine. The Constitution isn't Sacred Writ. It was designed to be the best we had at the time, yet fluid and bending to the will of the people. Maybe I'm not expressing it well, but them's my thoughts.
