According to historian William Leuchtenburg:
The Progressives believed in the Hamiltonian concept of positive government, of a national government directing the destinies of the nation at home and abroad. They had little but contempt for the strict construction of the Constitution by conservative judges, who would restrict the power of the national government to act against social evils and to extend the blessings of democracy to less favored lands. The real enemy was particularism, state rights, limited government.
There is no fascism growing in the US, it's just all reactions to one side pushing the other.

American society was rapidly changing and growing. TDR was the first progressive president, he even attempted to build an official party running off progressive principles, and it was all because of JP Morgan who took control of basically the entire nation to save it. People were outraged and bigger government was 'the cool' thing to do at the time.
Roosevelt was running against Woodrow and lost because he just basically took Roosevelt's platform and used the well established Democratic coalition to beat him. I think this is where the progressive stance for the democratic party started.
I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world - no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.

Well in all seriousness. You have the POTUS telling people that every news network is 'Fake news', and pushed for Fox being the only unbiased source.
Roosevelt lost because JP Morgan owned most of the media at the time and bought Wilson his Presidency in exchange for signing the Federal Reserve Act, actually.

The sad part is, he's about 90% correct.
Any outrage over that?
