The best thing about women's soccer is how they celebrate after they score! I don't know why but for some reason I find this extremely entertaining!

Today, the USA WNT plays Spain at 12 noon EST

USA FACES SPAIN IN ROUND OF 16 AS KNOCKOUT STAGES BEGIN

And my favorite player will hopefully play today:

Does the rest of the world care about womens soccer?
Here in the US nobody pays attention until world cup time and that's only a slight interest.
Much like every Olympic sport.

I know in Europe soccer is king but does it translate to womens leagues?

No , but in the name of "equality" they keep ramming it down out throats.

That's unfortunate.
I love womens softball and volleyball.

But most other sports just dont cut it I guess.

I was curious if the womens side watch followed in soccer friendly countries. I guess not.

Actually women's soccer is very popular and their is professional leagues all over Europe, most notably in the UK, Sweden, France, Germany and many others, There's even a professional league in the U.S, so in fact people do care, many, many people and it's not just every 4 years during the WC.

I looked up the national women's soccer league attendance in 2018.
6024 per game.
651k total.

So no, it's not very popular in the us..

Cant comment on other countries.

Not strictly speaking true as, for example, Atletico Madrid regularly play in front of 20'000 and when they played Barcelona this season they had over 60'000. However, it is fair to say that for every Atletico there are 10 teams that wouldnt get that sort of support even if you combined crowds....

Hmmm. You make a good point. I never thought about it like that.

I'm absolutely certain women's football would be considered a minority sport in most countries.
But I'm equally certain that its popularity is growing in many countries, including the US.

And just because it may not challenge something like NFL for popularity it doesn't mean its crap.

Attendances at NBA games seem to vary between 16,000 to 21,000 per game.
Relatively small when compared to attendances at comparative level football matches throughout the rest of the world yet it is still considered a major sport in the USA.

Attendances don't always tell the full story.
They may be relatively small in the US but they are increasing, TV viewing figures are also increasing quite significantly and investment and advertising, much of it by some of the largest brand names in the world, has soared.

It may not be Champions League level but it deserves respect.

Just turned the USA v Spain game on; seems like VAR has been controversial again.

I dont think its crap.
The ladies are tremendous athletes.
I was just curious of its popularity in other countries.
The sport is getting more participation for sure.
So is softball.
Now womens basketball is crap.

I suppose the best way to determine the popularity of a sport would be to go by its revenue.

2017-2018 NBA was $8 billion.
The WNBA is around $50 million.
And dont forget that the NBA gives the WNBA $25 million of their total revenue every year.

That's only 150 times less revenue. Lol

Attendance is also related to ticket prices.
WNBA tickets are cheap.

Well, your lady sure came through. Interestingly, a women's soccer player came to my studio last night while we were filming some Roller Derby stuff. 19, college student at UVU. She said that women's soccer is statistically more contact than the men. After watching Spain commit sooooooooooo many penalties against the US this morning, I do not think I can disagree. But yeah, these ladies are tough as nails. And if the US is not fond of soccer, then why are we ranked #1 in the world, and defending our World Cup title?

I was there and it was fun to see these chicks up close.
Very competitive match. These girls have a ton of skill and a great team connection.

Fun team to watch
