According to the New York Times, Children, including infants, are being held in a filthy border station within these facilities. Their clothes are soiled with mucus, feces and breast milk. No soap. No toothbrushes. Not enough food and even the guards are wearing masks. "‘There Is a Stench’: No Soap and Overcrowding in Detention Centers for Migrant Children" Reads the article.

A chaotic scene of sickness and filth is unfolding in an overcrowded border station in Clint, Tex., where hundreds of young people who have recently crossed the border are being held, according to lawyers who visited the facility this week. Some of the children have been there for nearly a month.

Children as young as 7 and 8, many of them wearing clothes caked with snot and tears, are caring for infants they’ve just met, the lawyers said. Toddlers without diapers are relieving themselves in their pants. Teenage mothers are wearing clothes stained with breast milk.

Most of the young detainees have not been able to shower or wash their clothes since they arrived at the facility, those who visited said. They have no access to toothbrushes, toothpaste or soap.

“There is a stench,” said Elora Mukherjee, director of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Columbia Law School, one of the lawyers who visited the facility. “The overwhelming majority of children have not bathed since they crossed the border.” Conditions at Customs and Border Protection facilities along the border have been an issue of increasing concern as officials warn that the recent large influx of migrant families has driven many of the facilities well past their capacities. The border station in Clint is only one of those with problems.

In May, the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security warned of “dangerous overcrowding” among adult migrants housed at the border processing center in El Paso, with up to 900 migrants being held at a facility designed for 125. In some cases, cells designed for 35 people were holding 155 people.

And itg gets worse, according to another article of the New Yorker:

Many of the children reported sleeping on the concrete floor. They are being given army blankets, those wool-type blankets that are really harsh. Most of the children said they’re being given two blankets, one to put beneath them on the floor. Some of the children are describing just being given one blanket and having to decide whether to put it under them or over them because there is air-conditioning at this facility. And so they’re having to make a choice about, Do I try to protect myself from the cement, or do I try to keep warm?

And so, immediately from that population that we were trying to triage, they were filthy dirty, there was mucus on their shirts, the shirts were dirty. We saw breast milk on the shirts. There was food on the shirts, and the pants as well. They told us that they were hungry. They told us that some of them had not showered or had not showered until the day or two days before we arrived. Many of them described that they only brushed their teeth once. This facility knew last week that we were coming. The government knew three weeks ago that we were coming.

This facility knew last week that we were coming. The government knew three weeks ago that we were coming.

Some of the children, on Wednesday, told us that there was a lice infestation as well as an influenza outbreak at that facility, and so a number of the children are being taken into isolation rooms, quarantine areas where there’s nobody with them except for other sick children.

There was one child-mother who took her baby in there, because the baby got the flu. And then the mother, because she was in there caring for the child, got the flu as well. And so then she was there for a week, and they took the baby out and gave the baby to an unrelated child to try to take care of the child-mother’s baby.

There are some other stories that we’ve heard from the children, such as that one of the guards has an older child, who’s seventeen, serve as the unofficial guard inside the room. So he tells the kids what to do, and he tries to keep the room neat and straighten up the mattresses and everything. Now, the guards reward him with extra food, and when a seven-year-old saw that this older boy was getting extra food by being helpful, he asked if he could help clean up the room and keep it neat so that he, too, could get extra food. And the seventeen-year-old chastised him for this, and then when an older sibling tried to stand up for his little brother, the guard intervened and reprimanded both the little boy and his older brother.

The Liberals are using the welfare of children to their advantage again .

The way to end this mess is with a wall or permanent barrier .

Instead the Liberals would rather see children suffer .

We (the liberals....all of us) would like to state that we collectively agree that we believe that the mistreatment of children should be above partisan politics and that even the right should agree that children suffering is wrong regardless of politics.

We understand that this may be politically inconvenient for you lot but we would ask that you rise above the politics of this and call out the mistreatment of children regardless.

Yours kindly...

So the NY Times is finally admitting there is a crisis at the border and we need a wall?

More like

"there is a crisis at the border, so we must eliminate the border."

So, isn't the humane solution not to allow them into this country if they are destined to be treated worse the the fearful country they are fleeing?

Thanks for agreeing we need to stop them all at the border.

Kudos!

Any mention in that article that one of the main reasons for this is because Democrats in Congress refuse to support additional funding for CBP to operate these facilities?

Provost said agents are “bringing toys in for children and buying them with their personal money. Agents are bringing in clothes. They’re feeding babies. They’re going above and beyond day in and day out to try to care for these individuals to the best of their ability. And this is not what they were trained or what they signed up for to do.”

No we feel improving the conditions in these facilities would be the optimal solution.

Then why have your compatriots in Congress repeatedly voted down $$$ to improve the situation? Unless, of course, these poor children are being used as political fodder in the resistance movement to the current legally elected administration.

If they refuse to provide the funding, then what is the alternative, humanely? Is it humane to continue to refuse additional funding?

I tell you, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

That would require more funding. Funding for CBP is being stalled in Congress. The left controls Congress.

We need to release these people back to the lives they were living here in the US. Their valuable contributions to our GDP, and assistance to our workforce our overlooked.

It's awful that we are treating hard working people seeking a better life like garbage.

I can't believe we're holding children and babies in these facilities!

Let them go! Allow them to contribute to our amazing country!

Let freedom ring and prosperity be in their future!

This Nation was built on people just walking in here and setting up shop. It's how we became the world's symbol for liberty. Open the borders!

So the left says come one come all, and they come. The left says sanctuary cities!, and they come. Then they come and overwhelm the border's logistical capabilities to support and then the left screams oh those evil Republicans.

The left talk all day but don't do much after that. Case in point... Homeless friendly cities, and they come. We will take care of you, and they come...Now there is once again no infrastructure to support, all those liberals now say get off my lawn. As the homeless population physically craps on the city, the city craps on them, and I don't see the illegal situation any different.
