Now it was apparently flying in stealth mode, thus proving Iran has anti stealth radar.

a reply to: Zaphod58 That's actually a great thing. Now the US military can just add stealth mode to anything- that's gonna save big bucks on NGAD, we can just by little Cessna's, equip them with Stealth Mode®, hang some AIM 120's on them, and presto- NGAD.

Well, part of the US response to the overall situation is public. A cyber attack was carried out in response to the attack on the tankers. It is very doubtful that Iran would be able to repel any major operational push by the US- we've already broken down the door by crippling their air defense systems.

Cyber ttack

It could have also been in response to other jets flying over their airspace. After the tanker incident there was some fast mover traffic flying from the west coast. Surprised it wasn’t mentioned here to be honest.

Sounds more like someone sensible told Trump the drone was in Iranian airspace, So it's our own fault it was taken down. I thought there was also a manned spy plane in the air at the same time. If the Iranians are as crazy as the news, Bolton, Pompeo say they are why not shoot down the manned plane?
Imagine a Iranian drone flying anywhere near the U.S. It would be shot straight down.

Except it wasn't, even the Iranian map released showed that. As for an Iranian UAV, no it wouldn't be.

It was a spy drone, so its barely even a diplomatic incident. let alone an act of war.

Iran and Israel shoot each other's drones down all the time and it doesn't even make the news any more. Spy drones are fair game regardless of whose terretory they are over. Iran has shot down 3 or 4 drones previously, or used electronic war far to take them down. This is just Washington trying to cause trouble

If Washington doesnt want its drones to get shot down then it should stop using them to spy on Iran.

I have absolutely no doubt that America would shoot down an Iranian drone under the same circumstances, and I'd just as little sympathy for them in that situation.

Except that it was in international airspace where it had every right to be. Just as an Iranian UAV would.

The fast movers were probably F/A-18's from the Lincoln. The Triton is an expensive bird, and I'm sure they were in the area to discourage any aerial intercept.

There's too much risk in trying a traditional intercept of a Global Hawk in that area though.
