I wish the "OMG another Iraq!" crowd understood this was an option. There is a lot of middle ground between doing nothing and a full-on invasion.

Oh Its well understood. The question is can this Bolton led administration keep it at that? The Bolton crowd thinks we can go in and effect regime change in Iran and its going to be a disaster that will make Iraq look like an oooooopsie

Look, It is highly unlikely that the US would fly a strategic asset over Iranian airspace. The RQ-4 family is not a stealth aircraft thus would not be risked in such a fashion even to draw out Iranian radar systems etc.
I have been skeptical of the limpit mine claims, but unless Iran can produce proof that the Hawk was over their territory, it sure looks like they took it out over international waters using according to them their RAAD medium range system

The proper response to an airspace violation like this is to alert the operator and give them a short time frame to remove it. But you do you
The proper response is to make sure they don't violate airspace again.
You all think an American drone was just minding its own businesses and Iran shot it down because they like the heat of American war machines closing on them...
Americans will believe anything... All sides.
Mmm, centrifuges, huh? Stuxnet was the first of its kind.

Trump is backing down from his stance because the drone may have infringed in their airspace maybe the telemetry are handled by contractors not the navy.
I'm 100% sure after Iran "attacked" 3 ships and # a drone, the US would have pounced immediately.
The smoke screens are thinning out
