Actually most Mexicans are mutts with at least a percentage of native American. BUT. Usually Latin American and South American. They don't have a claim to anything north of the Rio Grande.

The original "Mexicans" ARE what one could say "Native Americans"

I believe that property claims (land grants) that existed before lands were acquired by the United States are grandfathered and valid. I am under the impression that land titles still go back to original land grant claims from Spain and other countries. Otherwise the land goes into public ownership to the state or federal government because said lands where never legally claimed before they were transferred to the United States. There are probably laws that deal with unclaimed territory after being ceded by other countries though. I can't see the government letting any land go without a title of some kind.
