It would be messed up if that gun was a murder weapon and somebody just tossed it in the river to hide the evidence.

exactly. probably why the police want to examine them.

Like I said, if it was operational I'd immediately report it to the authorities. There is no way it could work again and it's not even complete. Anyway, I'm cleaning it more and applying a nice varnish coat to make it shine again. I'll post a pic as soon the coat is dry

This seems like a pretty cool and relaxing hobby, like regular fishing. A few questions: Do you use big regular magnets or neodymium? Do you think one would be better than the other for this? Watched your vid without sound, are you in the UK or US? Are any permits required?
I agree with Shockerking, it does look like a tooth on an old anchor, with the seam around the outside being from the casting mold.

I use a neodymium magnet, it's the only way to do this right. I'm in New Jersey, USA. Permits are required in some places and also is illegal in some places, laws can be different in each county/town.

That's a really cool piece. I'm surprised it came out so clean compared to all the sludge it had from the river. Good find.

Yes, I'm surprised too. I used a tiny screwdriver this time, one of those used in electronics. It had a big crust of dirt. The varnish did the magic too.

Please give me the likes and subscribe. It's a great way to teach the kids history, better than books for them.

Ask your dentist if they have any worn-out cleaning tools. I keep a couple in my archaeology field kit.

That's a great idea! I know you can buy picks from various stores, but never thought about used picks from dentists. I'm guessing they have to dispose of them after so long and replace with new and probably just throw the old away.

We don't do it often, but the hubby and I have gone "magnet" fishing a few times. Once on a lake near us, and pulled up a fishing pole and reel, that worked, and another time dragging the magnet behind our kayak on a river, and only found some type of rock stuck to it, thin, and almost the length of my finger.

Loved watching your video! Makes me want to get out and do it more!

The kayak was on my wish list too but they are so expensive and need room to store it. I need something to get on the water for sure.

Magnet fishing......awesome......

In this bad area by me when a drought hit and this huge pond got low on water all these guns were popping out of the mud.
I'm sure if you know the right stash body of water lots of cool stuff being thrown away

My possible next hunt will be a place with a little island in a river. I'm waiting for low level waters on this weekend.

So yes, I know what you mean šŸ˜€šŸ‘
