Emergency declared in southern Mexico as forest fires rage

Authorities declared emergencies in 11 municipalities in the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca due to raging forest fires, as high temperatures and dry conditions plague much of the country.

Forest fires were also reported Saturday in popular weekend retreats near the capital, such as Valle de Bravo and Tepoztlan, where the archaeological zone was closed. And in the Pacific state of Jalisco, more than 300 firefighters attempted to stamp out five blazes outside Mexico's second-biggest city, Guadalajara.

Lets hope this is not a harbinger of things to come this year in the US. There are reports on the internet that the fires could have been set deliberately. Even reports of energy weapons being used to set the fires. There are active volcanoes around some of the fires that could of set them off.

Here is a video showing some of the fires burning from a helicopter. It is said there are 5 fires set in an almost straight line.

Whatever the cause of these fires, lets hope the loss of life and property is minimal.

Wow, that is a lot of fire in Mexico. In a time when we are trying to stop carbon emmissions, the best solution is burning up. Trees are great at putting carbon back into the environment. I wonder why so much is burning, it seems like someone is starting them to clear the land or something.
