So you think there should never be any other creative sources other than classic rock, which I am not too fond of by the way....each generation has its music and each hold it's own creativity.....the 50's generation didn't like the music of the late 60's early 70's....but each generation builds on the last one and adds to the creativity, thankfully, there is something for everyone....sheeeeeeeeesh!

Yeah, new rock does blow. Hard. That's why I don't listen to it. Classic Rock, Rap & Hip Hop, Irish Drinking songs, almost anything but new rock is good for me.

I totally agree with you on the classic rock and irish drinking songs, today's so called punk rock is like a three chord nursery rhyme exempting mother goose.
I miss the real talent that music companies won't put out anymore, i think there is some conspiracy to dumb us down and reducate us on what music really is. What they are telling us is to replace the word #ty muscian with talented musician. Don't be fooled. Now go turn on those old records and track tapes

If all of radio is corporate owned, the playlists are dictated by payola, so those music gurus, the DISK JOCKEY, is killed off and replaced with a talking head, who can only play statistically ranked s**t.
My dearly departed Mum used to have a tradition I follow: clean the house on Sat. with the stero blaring.
You try to do that now? They're playing the same songs twice every couple of hours!!!

Sooooooooo, go to www.launch.com, select your bands thus creating your own station, buy some decent PC speakers, and you're set!

I agree, i hate these new "punk rock" bands like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Story of the Year, Yellow Card, all the ones you listed. That #s not punk rock, punk rock IS like the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Black Flag, NOFX, Bad Religion, and The Misfits. While I sometimes like the OCCASIONAL song by these New Bands, 95% of them suckass.

I listen to many different types of music, and I dont hate much. These new bands (list above), Folk (and the likes), Bluegrass, and Rush (yes, Rush) are the only Bands/Genres that I REALLY hate with a passion.

I think even more irritating is all these Tween Pop Queens who now think they are rock stars. Believe me, compared to the Rock artists of the 80's, they are just little pansies.

Don't dispair, there are good new bands out there! You just have to find them through the deluge of commercialised, watered down, talentless crap that seems to dominate most radio stations.

Like an earlier poster quite accurately pointed out, the whole music biz is corporate run, from the labels to much of the radio. You do get good, original and talented acts under the suffocating, plastic, commercial mainstream blanket though, and when enough peolpe catch on to one of these acts, they burst though into the mainstream, because the music biz can't afford to miss out on them. Its always so refreshing when it happens, and you know what - its happening more and more just lately. There are many examples to give optimism to the music fan, regardless of which genre's you follow.

I will agree with you on this! I can't stand those little mealy mouthed female vocalist that have no heart in their voice what so ever...we woman can rock! So why all the fluff bunny vocals is beyond me! Take the link below, "Here and Now" too fluff! Wasn't my idea to do it, but I tried to do it justice...to "me" that's fluff....and shows no type of vocal talent at all. I also like many of the newer band these days...but I have a lot a variety in my taste, though I am still "picky".

Hi LadyV, I cant get the link to that song to work. It must be too popular and you've run out of bandwidth! Good to see that other ATSers are in bands, I'll have to put some of mine up too!

Are you familiar with Candi Staton's earlier work? She possesses one hell of a voice, one that none of todays 'stars' could never be compared too!

Compared to artists like Pat Benatar and the Wilson Sisters of Heart, those little Pop Princesses don't know the meaning of being a real Rock Star.

Yeah, I hate them too. and most of the newer ones are "actresses" turned singers.

Being 18 now, I agree, about 95% of the music out there is crap now. They're all the same. Whining white kids with no beat. I especially can't stand all the girl rockers, Avril Lavigne, Simpsons, Spears, Duff. They all get there songs from the same damn place: Suckville.

Yeah, I'm 19 and can't stand this new type of music. Where have all the real guitarists gone? I guess I was born a couple decades too late eh?! :bnghd:

80s metal anyone? hehe

Christina and Britney may not be "rock" stars, and they may be pigs, but they know how to be stars. Pat Benetar wasn't exactly Ella Fitzgerald musically either.

Most times were just being nostalgic. That tends to happen...the "good old days" and all. I say cartoons now suck, but when I happen to see something from back in the day like Voltron or the Thundercats. Ya, they sucked too.

Can anyone say disco was a great genre of music? How about new wave? How about "bubble-gum" pop?

No.

There's no difference between #ty music in 1960 and #ty music in 2005. It's actually a lot easier to find good music these days than ever before thanks to the internet. Just not on FM radio.

What pisses me off is when I find a good band then they get go mainstream. I rocked Limp Bizkit two years before they were famous. Same thing with Modest Mouse. Most rappers that come out I've listened to before they "blew up". That's frustrating because when someone's mainstream their music changes.
