Where it would be ok to simply post a picture or meme without having to include much or any text?

Why not just make a meme thread in general?

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Well, this is a discussion and debate board. Memes have their place, but not in a serious discussion and people tend to use them as propaganda tools or to engage in trolling, political or otherwise. Personally I'd like to see less memes from lazy posters.

In any serious discussion they truly do not have a place.

In my mind a good post is one where an opinion is given and backed up by links to sources and the person posting has done some homework before posting. Don't get me wrong, I do get a chuckle out of some memes. They are best kept in BelowTopSecret threads and out of serious threads.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Agreed. They're really too easy and lazy to have any real value.

Why not just give up on the idea of intelligent communication altogether and go back to painting on cave walls?

Why not, since this is an alt right forum and memes are alt right hate speech. Why woulnd't you guys have a meme section.

They're more a technique that symbolically represents a relationship between two things, usually ironic in some way. They're definitely superficial and fairly pointless because they're so compressed. That's the nature of the comedy they employ. But they don't necessarily all have to be alt right hate speech:

Since the girl is shopped in, wouldn’t a dumpster fire make more sense with labels if doing a meme for the Dems? As is, it is a level of humor just above the humor that inspired Kathy Griffon’s severed head photo shoot.

But if you go to the mud pit you can find everything but serious, intelligent conversations :S

When i was a kid, people throwing sticks and dirt at one another over the river was the last thing i thought when i imagined adults having serious discussions ..

That seems weird, sometimes you can get a lot more from an image than an entire book explaining it.. See for example works of art

Are the old images painted on canvases good enough because those are old? I wonder what people thought about them when the paintings were brand new.. Did they assume it was crap because that poor as hell young guy down the road without a beard painted them?

A meme can be dumb but can also be smart, same as any other painting/picture from whatever decade/century. I rather see a smart meme than one of those ridiculous modern paintings with a white background and a few lines here and there and the vomit of some drunk painter splashed all over the canvas. But anyways

Yep, exactly, small minds get far more from simple images than they do from complex books or novels.

There is room for both, you can see pictures that give you a view of the world that a book could never provide.

Is not the same connection at all

That doesn't make any sense but cool

That's right, and is generally as children why we enjoy cartoons and comics, as we mature and gain a more thorough understanding of the world around us we (not all of us) move on to more complex stories and understanding.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

My personal opinion is that the so called "memes" are for people that find it hard to have an intelligent conversation, their place is in the trash.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
