They already do.

My finances are subject to IRS approval and apparently the US Congress can yell at people for their age and religious orientation.

I assume you've never been audited if you think the IRS Subpoenas your personal banking information when they go over your taxes.

The IRS also isn't supposed to target individuals.

The IRS also isn't supposed to be a political tool with political motivations.

Now the IRS may have in the past over stept its authority; but two wrongs do not make a right.
