Wasn't there a thread the other day about a bunch of churchs being burned?

I thought that was in france too.

There's been about a dozen in France since February.

The real question is it some sort of anti-Christian attack by Islamic jihadists or is it just a secular hatred of Christianity?

Almost certainly no , there's a long history of buildings catching fire when they're being renovated.

This happening during the Easter Week is at best a very disturbing and symbolic coincidence. No matter what happened there, those scenes look eerie familiar.

The spire in this photo has since collapsed.

Scaffolding near the spire makes me wonder if that is where the fire started.

No one knows what happened yet. Could be an accident.
I hope its just an accident and not some asshole with a grudge to settle.

I don't see water being directed toward the roof, for some reason. Not easy to access?

I was there but I was only 11. Still I remember how beautiful it was. I compared it to St. Patricks in NYC.
It is bigger.

Worry not, my friends. A beautiful mosque will be erected in the place to make up for it.

They are reporting no deaths, but i'm not sure how they can know that, unless there were no workers on site when it happened and if there weren't people working then they probably didn't cause it.

Now reporting the entire interior and structure is burning.

It is gone, it was inferred 'insurance verse restoration costs.. on a News agency. Anyone taking credit as a terrorist attack?

I've been in Notre Dame de Paris, in 1975. It is a magnificent medieval cathedral with an immensely high central knave and a gorgeous rose window.

A commentator is saying that the fire is most intense in the center of the roof. Some of the scaffolding has collapsed near the spire. The commentator says that the fire is not yet under control. Isle de la Cité has been evacuated.

I took my familly around Notre Dam a few years back.

The amount of unattended lighting and power kit scattered around , the wires and cables across the floor, coupled with the interior dimness/ darkness made it an accident waiting to happen.

Horrible thing to happen all the same.

Ask yourself who build that church, and why is it burning now?

Not a religious person in anyway but I can respect the history lost here.

Fires can start from a lot of things that are not nefarious , especially old buildings.
Sadly lets hope its a logical explanation vs anything else.

France24's commentator at the scene says that there are firetrucks, fire boats and helicopters at the scene. (The cathedral is situated on an island in the center of Paris.)

Or an accident at a renovation site.
Fires from debris during restoration is a big problem. Also old insulation is being exposed and that is very flamable.
And some tools may be heat producing.
why jump to conclusions of terrorists first when accident is more likely.

They seem to be getting things under control. According to the France24 commentator the police are saying that the fire was the result of an accident. (Careless workmen, sudden gust of wind?)

New development:

The Paris prosecutor’s office has started inquiry into the blaze — although, it was unclear if the fire was deliberately set.
