Ratios are the only way to analyze for comparison. China has a far bigger economy than the Netherlands, but its gdp and income per capita are far
lower..
Same with metrics such as energy use, beer consumption, etc. In absolute numbers China is far more due to its massive population. Per capita, however,
it’s lower on all aforementioned metrics.
Absolute numbers mean little if seeing quality of life indicators. Crime rates per capita in a city are one of the main ways crime levels are
analyzed, not the absolute number of let’s say violent crimes.
1000 violent crimes means little in a city of 10 million. It means a lot in a town of 50,000.
