What if extraterrestrial life isn't really as special, divine, or mystical as we think it is? (In our pop culture)

Maybe they know that if they meet us, it would rob us of our creative and imaginative freedom, regarding life in the Universe.

"If we show up, they won't be making new theories about us, they'll just know... and we're a disappointment."

Maybe letting us continue to ponder in ignorance, is to allow us to create new exciting content, art, and entertainment.

Let us pursue our dreams, rather than confront the dull reality. I can understand the viewpoint. Our entertainment industry, our music, movies, books, comics, etc... provide a massive plethora of entertainment.

They may have obtained a "login" to "Netflix Earth" Can you imagine, suddenly having another civilizations' entire artistic history, shows, movies, books, etc... All at once...

It would provide countless hours of entertainment, to tap the art of a foreign civilization.

I'm sure similar theories exist, and I'm probably not the first to put the idea forward...

I wanted to get your take on it. Is this inherently unlikely?

That's a bit of Rick and Morty mixed with Star Trek there.

I believe the only reason Alien life would be considered divine or mystical is due to how technologically advanced they would have to be to get here from another planet/dimension (the jury is still out for me on inter-dimensional life).

But special? You don't think the first ET visitors we actually knew about would be special? It would be something more than special, astounding, awesome (to use the word in its original context).

This makes me think of a planet inhabited by variations of Marvin the Paranoid Android...

What if...
That was the idea to begin with when they seeded us ?

The real reason ET doesn't come visit us is because ET has voluntarily disarmed. They are afraid to visit us. They are just wimpy little socialist creatures that are powerless against Earthlings.

No, the reason is that they think humans are rather a crazy species, good fun to watch.... from a distance.

Why do you think UFO's fly so erratic?

It's because the pilot is laughing his head off, making it hard to keep the damn thing steady.

Any civilisation capable of interstellar/galactic travel is special.

And if we go by Clarke their tech would be indistinguishable from magic.

In a real scenario it's not going to be like Archer or any other Star Trek episode.

We'd be nothing more than ants to them.

We don't understand, nor can communicate with everything on our planet like plants, and animals, so why would we be able to communicate with a more advanced race?

I think they look at all the chaos going on, and the inability to communicate, even amoungst ourselves, and they take a pass.

IMHO, They are demonic enetities. And until GOD The Father (Abba Ya) wills it, they will be secretive, nefarious and elusive from "total Disclosure." And when that day does come, it will be one of the worst days for mankind.
Your mileage may differ.

It's possible that one day, several centuries from now (maybe sooner), the human race may be able to travel beyond our solar system as explorers, searching for life. Using your logic, I guess we could be construed as demonic entities, if we ever landed on a planet inhabited by a less advanced extraterrestrial civilization.

It'd be like when the Europeans first came to the America's.

The natives thought they were alone in the universe.

Turns out a lot of demonic snip followed.

Do you bother the ant farm when you walk past it? Do you even notice it?

Ben Rich (Director of Lockheed Skunk works) said during a 1993 Alumni Speech at UCLA, “We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in black projects and it would take an Act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity…Anything you can imagine, we already know how to do.” At the end of the speech, Rich said, “We now have the technology to take ET home.” www.gaia.com...

It can't be construed. There are NO other less advanced extraterrestrial civilizations.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful or pick a fight. I used to have similar lines of thought about these aliens as well. However, my profession has allowed me to come into direct intimate contact, with Generals, Admirals, high ranking military personnel, and other three letter organizations.
In the end, we're all entitled to believe what we want.

If they can travel here to meet us, then they'd be far superior to us technological wise. It would be like America in present day visiting a tribe in the Amazon. Or as you say, we'd be nothing more than zoo animals to them.

I think the more likely scenario is that there is life but not necessarily "intelligent life". There is some planet with animals, plants, bacteria.... not necessarily similar to what we have here in on earth.

They'll come as soon as they find evidence of intelligent life around here.

You don't really look at the ants, till ,till they suddenly come up with a weapon so terrible that it will kill you and your civilisation as well. Then ,by god, you look at them closely.
Anyway, who says the aliens are coming from outer space?

I really dig your Netflix Earth idea...

The crux of discovering alien life is the idea that they are going to be existing at the same time we are existing. As if finding alien life wasn't already a giant lottery.. finding one that's still around makes those odds even bigger.

We've been contemplating extraterrestrial life for a few thousand years (at the absolute most you could figure just for benefit of doubt)

The universe is how many years old? Like billions right?

Two species separated by such large distances that it equates to hundred of years of TIME, lining up and meeting at the same point, both alive and in tact? That's a long shot. Meaning... there could be intelligent life on the other side of the universe but by the time it gets here we will all be gone! Or vice versa.

Jack McDevitt has some great books on this kind of topic... Engines of God comes to mind.
