Can anyone give me a link to just one thread that literally says we should emulate Venezuelan ideals?

When anyone says the words socialism or democratic socialism, it nearly always means we should emulate countries that are literally, statistically and citizen - reported ( levels of happiness ) better than the USA. Blind nationalism and ignorance like saying "but Venezuela!" is not getting us anywhere.

We can do better. We're good, don't get me wrong, I'm damn proud to live here and have only grown appreciation for this country, but in the same regards I know we all deserve better, and that we can achieve better. Some countries do things better than we do. Some don't. Why would we not seek a better way?

It's apparent that political, corporate and media corruption are at the top of our true issues.

Yet we still sit here and argue about semantics or define words to mean what we want them to, rather than press ahead and fix something.

Five years ago, future Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders described Socialist-ruled Venezuela as a more suitable exemplar of the American dream than the United States.

Socialism is the direct polar opposite of a Democratic Republic.

You won't find a real thread to it because socialism always fails, so the current batch of Democratic Socialists can't link every other failure throughout history to what they are trying to do now.

Because although it has always failed and always will, THIS time it is going to work.

Because 'Merica.

Happy now?

I think we should talk about it, since it's such an excellent idea.

AOC sez so and there is a comic book now so the leftists can understand it now!

Crayons feed only one kind of person, a United States Marine.

For this level of stupidity you need something much stronger that really gets the "why are you so retarded" message AND feeling across. For that feeling, there's Tide Pod Eating. And from the makers of Tide Pod Eating comes burning refuse bin huffing.

Can't be a card carrying socialist without passing one of those two internet challenges.

If I can keep my individual right to choose, individual responsibility stays intact, rights (ALL OF THEM) stay intact, then have your "socialism".

Just don't make me participate.

deadlyhope,

Words mean things. We define them by many ways, but the dictionary and consensus are the two main ways. We look at the histories of words and their meanings over time.

Grammar is also a means to impress meaning into a sentence that is understandable and relatable to the reader. As writers we must be careful to write so that we cannot be misunderstood. That requires using exact words, active language, and ensuring that we are deriving meaning from consensus rather than vernacular.

For instance, the word "theory" in common vernacular is used as a sort of dismissive term for what is correctly termed a "hypothesis". The word "theory" has its own meaning, to wit:

theory noun
the·o·ry | ˈthē-ə-rē , ˈthir-ē
plural theories
Definition of theory
1 : a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena;
the wave theory of light

The above is the correct way to use the word. However, many dictionaries have included, as a secondary or even tertiary definition, a sort of "contextual" use, to mean what is traditionally known as a hypothesis.

This kind of conflation and lack of preciseness creates confusion. When people hear about the Theory of Relativity or the Theory of the Big Bang the conflicting double meaning assumes that an ASSUMPTION is being made.

Conversely, when you use the term socialism interchangeably with a concept like American Democratic welfarism, you again inculcate a meaning that is NOT present, in the practical sense, in socialist economic theory.

What I'm really trying to say is, we can't just make # up and hope things look up. If you ASK for something like socialism, you're going to get it.

Venezuela just happens to be one of the most recent examples of many Countries, that's imploding because of a failed Socialist Government, albeit Corrupt as well and yes we can do Better, that's why many of us are supporting the current POTUS and for those paying attention we ARE doing Better !

There is and has been an agenda to take down America's Constitutional Republic and it's being sold as a lovely " New Green Deal " a flowery way to say Agenda 21. Make no mistake, the Freedom's you probably hold dear are under Attack !

I'm going to link a video posted by Cranky, a very wise ATS member, about how and who recruited the radical new Dems like AOC, very eye opening.
