The glaciers in Alaska alone are losing an estimated 75 billion tons of ice every year. The oceans, which absorb over 90 percent of the excess heat trapped by greenhouses gases in the atmosphere, are warming and acidifying, melting the polar ice caps and resulting in rising sea-levels and oxygen-starved ocean dead zones. We await a 50-gigaton burp, or "pulse," of methane from thawing Arctic permafrost beneath the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, which will release the equivalent of around two-thirds of the total carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere since the beginning of the industrial era. Some 150 to 200 species of plants, insects, birds and mammals are becoming extinct every 24 hours – one thousand times the "natural" or "background" rate. This pace of extinction is greater than anything the world has experienced since the disappearance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Chris Hedges speaks to journalist and author, Dahr Jamail, about his new book 'The End of Ice: Bearing Witness and Finding Meaning in the Path of Climate Disruption,' which looks at the climate emergency.

There is one desperate chance left to thwart the impending ecocide and extinction of the human species. We must, in wave after wave, carry out nonviolent acts of civil disobedience to shut down the capitals of the major industrial countries, crippling commerce and transportation, until the ruling elites are forced to publicly state the truth about climate catastrophe, implement radical measures to halt carbon emissions by 2025 and empower an independent citizens committee to oversee the termination of our 150-year binge on fossil fuels. If we do not do this, we will face mass death.

The British-based group Extinction Rebellion has called for nonviolent acts of civil disobedience on April 15 in capitals around the world to reverse our “one-way track to extinction.” I do not know if this effort will succeed. But I do know it is the only mechanism left to force action by the ruling elites, who, although global warming has been well documented for at least three decades, have refused to carry out the measures needed to protect the planet and the human race. These elites, for this reason alone, are illegitimate. They must be replaced.

“It is our sacred duty to rebel in order to protect our homes, our future, and the future of all life on Earth,” Extinction Rebellion writes. This is not hyperbolic. We have, as every major climate report states, very little time left. Indeed, it may already be too late.

Someone's "science" makes no sense... if the glaciers are depositing 75 billion tons of additional melt water into the ocean per year, then it would be cooling the ocean. Don't know how many of these idiots have actually stood in a glacial river, but I have... it's colder than anyone who hasn't been in one could even imagine.

The global warming hoax must march on, however... money to made and power to grab and whatnot.

The water around the glaciers is cold. Been in Alaska and put my hands in the water by the glacier back in the seventies. The cold water is circulating in the ocean from the melting ice. There may be some parts of the Ocean heating up on the surface, but there is still cool currents underneath.

The information from all the research is being twisted to blame our problems all on carbon, carbon may be a part of it but not nearly as much as they are saying it is. If it was, we should get all of the Jets out of the air and get rid of wasted electricity and gas and oil being used, not tax the everyday worker and raise prices to make our lives hell while the recipients of the tax are living the high life and flying all over the world.

We need to start being more ecologically friendly and live symbiotically with nature. Look at NYC pictures from space, all that light pollution. Look at the cruise ships, they waste everything and everyone flys to them on airlines. People traveling all over for what, something to do? Find local things to do, you do not need to fly to Brazil to watch an eclipse or go to Italy to taste their food. You do not need to go to France to see a leaning tower or to taste the bread and wine. Seems like the countries that are wrapped up in this global warming agenda are the ones that have so much tourism in them, they will not restrict air travel or vacations to their country, they tax the person driving to work or heating their homes.

We need to start conserving, buying a more energy conservative fridge two years before it is bad is not saving our environment, pushing green is mostly a scam. When it gets old and unreliable, then replace it, same with all the appliances we get tax breaks on to replace, or getting tax rebates on solar panels. Spend thirty grand on a solar system and it pays itself off in ten years with the tax break. Trouble is the power company only gives you credit on the overage it produces, it never pays off, it is non-nontransferable. You make your own power, you get nothing paid to you from the credit for many years if you keep producing power.

It's not, though. But hey, let's flip the tables on that... if the hoax ends up being fully enshrined and all these changes are made, how do you justify screwing future generations out of prosperity and development in the name of countering what will be viewed as a hoax sometime in the not too distant future (eventually the "in 10 year's time" can can't be kicked down the road another 10 years and the masses will say "Huh? We've heard this line of BS for decades now and still cities are securely above sea level, glaciers continue to shrink AND grow, and look! winter still happens every year like clockwork.")

Keep believing in the boogeyman, though. He's under your bed, not mine and I sleep like a baby, as do my children and as will my grandchildren.

You know ... because war is such an environmentally friendly practice. All that burning, releasing carbon into the atmosphere. I remember how awesome Saddam's oilfield fires were in Kuwait. I'm sure that if there was a revolution here. NOTHING like that would happen. No catastrophes by either side like nuke plant disasters or tailing dams being released or anything like that would occur.

Yes, I've been waiting for the AGW hoaxers to put up (or shut up) ever since AlGore started pushing this hyperbolic narrative to increase his profit margins. Remember "An Inconvenient Truth?" According to all the scientific "experts" surveyed for that mockumentary, our coastal cities were supposed to be flooded by now, ice caps gone years ago, Arctic looking more like a watery wasteland than an ice field... not only did none of that happen, but emissions have significant increased since that Ponzi scheme cash grab was initiated and...
