Weird Factoid of the Day...

Now most of us know the disease Malaria is spread via mosquitoes.

But, did you know that most people who contract the disease Malaria by the mosquitoes who carry the disease...are bitten on the feet?

And even weirder still is how this was discovered! It was discovered because of research into why Limburger cheese stinks the way it does. Yep, you read that right! Limburger cheese.

Turns out the bacteria 'Brevibacterium linens' is responsible for the notorious smell of Linburger cheese, and it is this same bacteria which make our feet stink sometimes. Researchers found, in 1996, that the mosquitoes known for carrying Malaria were particularly attracted to Linburger cheese, and likewise to people's feet.

Who knew??!!

Or take a piece of Limburger cheese with you when you visit an area containing malaria mosquitoes and put it out for them to get confused on.

But, my feet do not smell like Limburger cheese, they smell like Asiago cheese.

I am safe if I go into malaria infested areas I guess. As long as I don't eat anything with Limburger in it.

I wonder if there are hipster mosquitoes, that only crave artisanal Limburger cheeses?

It sounds as though footwear could actually reduce malarial infection. Such a simple thing...
