Interesting, more than likely you would of been on the west coast then, where more than likely you would of been of purer Irish heritage as when the Saxons, Vikings etc invaded the natural inhabitants of the Island were constantly pushed further inland, primarily up towards Galway and the Highlands.

If you have connections with Charlemagne then a good bet would be an ancestor came over with the Normans when Stongbow invaded. That's really cool, if I had any french heritage I would surely bow down to the keyboard right now.
