When I was a kid’: Elizabeth Warren makes a bold claim about minimum wage

There is so much wrong with this snip. It's not even funny. First off when she was a kid. She was a kid. Meaning like everyone else parents foot the bill.

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren claimed on Saturday that when she was a child, a family of three could live on minimum wage. “Back when I was a kid, a minimum-wage job could support a family of three,” she tweeted. “Today, a full-time minimum-wage job in America won’t keep a mama and a baby out of poverty.”

Warren was born in 1949. In 1960, she would have been 11 years old. The minimum wage at that time was $1. Assuming a 40-hour work week, the annual pay would have been $2080. The poverty line in 1960, for a family of three, was $2322 annually.

In 1960 that $1.00 would have the purchasing power of $8.57 in todays dollars.

That $2,322 annually works out to $19,908.16 in todays dollars.

In 1960 you didn't pay $40,000 for a car. Sure didn't pay anywhere what you do today for housing. In a nutshell everything was cheaper.

IM no liberal mouthpiece but..... what she is trying to say is that people lived more comfortably on income derived from a regular job. You could have a family of 3 and a home and work a regular job. One income. INFLATION is the problem. Costs of goods is the problem.... ALL the bells and whistles everyone thinks they deserve is the problem. the dems will NEVER understand that GOVT control will NEVER solve a thing.

Wants versus Needs!


Our society today is pathetic with narcissim in that if someone else has something they don't, then somehow in their tiny mind life isn't fair. Also, it seems that no matter how much these childlike adults get, they still need more! Materialism is like a drug to Western Society.

Well there was this little thing called the gold standard that backed our currency so that dollar minimum wage or $40 per week earned you a little over an ounce of gold. So if $1325 an ounce is today’s rate minimum wage would just under $38 an hour.

Except that is not how it works at all. If it was then the national debt could not be $21 trillion because there is less than $2 trillion in circulation. But since everything has an arbitrary value it is all a matter of perception. One could just as easily argue that our minimum wage is worth 1/7 of what it was in 1960 than 7 times what it was. And by that thought so is the relative wealth of the rich.

In the end Elizabeth Warren proves her preceptions of relative wealth in 1960 is no better that her perceptions of ethnicity.

I wish Dems didn't have seemingly monopolistic control over education. I hope to see a day where McDonalds isn't a viable career choice for people over the age of 18.

She also leaves out that women were not necessarily competing against men driving down wages. Remember, women used to largely stay home and care for the kids. If they did work, it was in more clerical areas and other fields that tend to attract women.

A huge unintended consequence of feminism is that women essentially doubled the work force and thus caused wage stagnation.

In addition, with women wanting to work, you now have daycare expenses, etc.

While inflation is certainly a thing, goods are far higher quality and better than they were 50 years ago.

When I was young in 68-69, minimum wage was $2.35 an hour. A Snickers was 5 cents, a soda 10 cents. A pair of Penny's leather shoes $9-10. A used car... $75- 200 Levis $5.35. Joining the Army paid $234 a month for private. A new Jaguar XKE V12 or De Tomaso Pantera were $10,000. new..... A new house in So Cal.... around 25K.

$2.35 an hour kept a high school kid going ok.... a family. no...

Really they need to make more good paying jobs more abundant, instead of making crappy jobs pay more. When you take all the reasonable well paying jobs of manufacturing and ship them overseas, replacing them with crappy service jobs that will never be able to pay well, then you get what we got today.
You can't support factory wages making sandwiches, not yesterday not today not tomorrow not ever.

Not necessarily. Sometimes things snowball before a person can get a hold of it. This happens in business more often than you think.

For instance, the vast majority of entrepreneurs fail within the first 18 months of starting their first venture.

Spread throughout a longer period and most businesses will encounter failure within 10 years.

Trump is a serial entrepreneur. He has many businesses and most of them are successful. Not all of them have been. In fact Donald Trump has a 98% success rate having started just over 500 businesses with only 11 failed businesses.

I take jabs at what they actually do and say. Not what I THINK is true, but what I know is true.

How can you criticize the success rate of the president when it is clearly well above the average? He is so successful that NOT betting on him would be statistically unsupportable. If you're going to make jabs at least make accurate ones.
