Yesterday afternoon I stopped for gas. While I was waiting for my tank to fill, I noticed two Police cars pull in with their lights flashing. There was a man a few pumps over who was open carrying a pistol. The police get out of their cars, with their guns drawn and order the man to place his pistol on the roof of his car and to step away from the car. He promptly complies with their orders. One of the officers takes the man's pistol and asks him for identification. The man pulls out his wallet and hands over his driver's license. The officer takes the license, goes over to his car and uses the radio. A few minutes later he comes back, tells the other officer that there is no problem. He hands the license and pistol back to the man, apologizes for bothering him and compliments him on how he handled himself. The officers get back into their cars and leave. I'm thinking "That was interesting."

I finish filling my car and leave. This was at about 4:30 PM. I'm watching the 6:00 PM news when they run the "Breaking News" header about a gunman being arrested near a school. They mention it being one year since the Parkland School shooting. One of their reporters is doing a live report at the same gas station where I was earlier. They show video of a school with the words "Gunman arrested near school on Parkland shooting anniversary." They interview a few people who are at the gas station. All of them basically say "Guns are bad."

A few things.
1. Nobody was arrested.
2. The school they showed is five miles from the gas station.
3. At the time of day that this happened, the school was empty.

They never went back to this story during the broadcast. This story wasn't posted on their website. When they re-broadcasted the news on their other channel this story wasn't included.

This is the same station that a few years ago made a big deal about a plane crash near a school. A powered hang glider crashed in a field two miles from a school in the middle of July.

I think it's bull crap.

A guy minding his own business. Not a threat to anyone. Get's the cops called on him because gunphobes are clearly over reactionary.

Guilty first.

I'm laughing at this, because in my area there are some real snooty people. We don't have a lot of crime,
but when we do, I notice it is NEVER and I mean never mentioned in the news, online on facebook etc.
They are trying to keep this image of Mayberry like you would never believe.

There was a string of car thefts out here. The person was caught in 2 days. Tell me where else does that happen?

You got it. The funny thing is that I had a 9mm in a shoulder holster under my jacket at the time. I was impressed by how professional the Police officers were. The man complied with their orders promptly and didn't have an attitude. I was surprised when they handed his pistol back to him, usually you have to go to the station to pick it up. Then the office shaking his hand and complimenting him on how he handled himself was interesting. It went the way it was supposed to. I've had it happen to me, but, never that smoothly.

So the NEWS reported the guy was "arrested"...when he was only stopped and questioned?

If "the guy" was wearing a MAGA hat, this would have been huge news.

You can almost imagine the headlines now.

Yes. They stopped him, ran his identification, apologized and told him to have a nice day.

That is an outstanding example of how the media is working these days. I was amazed at how many local stories on the local TV station were altogether wrong and never corrected.

Here's what I posit is going on.

Every day/week, there's a series of 5 or 6 "thematic" story lines the leftist media outlets feel the need to "promote" anyway they can. By promote I mean that they'll work a particular story line into anything they can and if they can't find something appropriate they just make something out of near whole cloth. So looking at today's news, we find the following "thematic" story lines.

1) The one year anniversary of the Parkland Florida shooting.
2) The "Wall", with the spending bill and Trump declaring a state of emergency; and that flows into favored sub-themes: a) children dying while in detention (cruel Trump); and b) families seperated at the border (cruel Trump).
3) Global Warming.
4) US pulling out of Syria.
5) Brexit.
6) World economic slowdown (Trump Tarrifs) and the threat to the US economy which is about to go into full blown recession, (doubtful).
7) Race, (white bad/POC good).
8) Fake news about how Fake news is wrecking everything.

Basically, you check CNN and what you see is 1) a bit of breaking news, hastily and briefly covered, 2) slanted political analysis, 3) a #metoo story or two, (PSA-men bad), 4) Global warming doom porn (propaganda), etc.

Basically, in terms of in depth news coverage, the leftist MSM has all but hijacked and near killed the news cycle.

In so doing, they've created an enormous vacuum.

Open carry is just stupid and asking for trouble. If anyone wants to carry they need to get a concealed permit and avoid all the BS that goes with open carry.

It's pathetic. Real news with objective reporting is as rare as a unicorn. Agenda drives everything, and the sad part is that advertisers back it.

Speaking of unicorns, even some of our most trusted purveyors of news have fallen into the same sewage pit:

The problem with that is where you live and the politics of the County Sheriff. Some Counties it is fairly easy to get a concealed carry permit others is isn't so easy. Where I live, I went to high school with the Sheriff, and as long as you meet the requirements it is pretty easy.

Funny you write this today... I have been working in our State Capitol building for about the last 9 months. Upgrading all the HVAC equipment. There are Michigan State police stationed in the building.

Yesterday as we were walking past their main desk by the entrance there were 2 guys, asking about the difference in concealed carry and open carry.

Just struck me as kind of odd as the looked just like two guys off the street. Not dressed anything like people who work in the capitol like permanently, but not from any of the crews working the construction, no hi-vis hard hats etc.. The building is open to the public, about 100,000 school kids come through each year I think they said...

They do have open carry day there too... that was kind of cool,

Maybe so but it's still smarter to concealed carry even without a permit rather than constantly attract attention and harassment open carrying.

Conceal an inexpensive gun that wouldn't break the bank if it's confiscated.

That's crazy, that I cannot find a link to this story at or near Pittsburgh in the last month, would you happen to have a link I assume since it was on TV it would have surely made the website. Maybe my Google search skills just subpar, either way, this smell of shat...

I stated in my initial post that I looked for it on the station's website and couldn't find it. This is one of the main reasons that I made this post. I can understand making a mistake, but, this looks like it was deliberate. Air the story at the time you have the most viewers, get the statement made and then delete it so that nobody can go back and call you on it later.

It's possible you witnessed one element of a staged event.

I think Parkland was staged as well.
