A progressive school in the nation's capital said its students will not be playing sports at the school where Second Lady Karen Pence teaches part-time because of safety concerns.
Jessica Donovan, headmaster of Sheridan School, a K-8 institution located in northwest D.C. that has a tuition of more than $36,000 a year, sent a letter to parents saying Immanuel Christian School's policies were an "obvious challenge" given the school's "fundamental belief in diversity and inclusion."
Sheridan is the latest group to target the school after Pence took a part-time job teaching art to students. The NOH8 Campaign, the Human Rights Campaign, The Trevor Project, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, and several others attacked her and the school, which says it holds to traditional Christian values when it comes to marriage and other beliefs.
Karen Pence announced she was returning to the Immanuel Christian School to teach art. She received backlash surrounding her decision to teach at the Christian school. Pence’s spokeswoman, Kara Brooks, said in a statement that Pence had worked for the school for 12 years before she and her husband, Vice President Mike Pence, began working at the White House.
“It’s absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school’s religious beliefs, are under attack,” Brooks previously said.
Donovan said she was proud of her students and the community’s decision and said they will continue to play their games at Sheridan, wearing LGBTQ socks
Since Pence took the part-time job as an art teacher at Immanuel, the school has been targeted by a number of progressive groups. Fox News reports that the NOH8 Campaign, the Human Rights Campaign, The Trevor Project, and CNN anchor Chris Cuomo have all come out in opposition to both Pence and the school, claiming that it ascribes to historic Christian values in the areas of marriage and sexuality.
The hashtag #exposechristianschools was also trending on Twitter, prompting Vice President Mike Pence to defend his wife and the school, saying “the attacks on Christian education must end.”
Kara Brooks, spokeswoman for Karen Pence, said in a statement that Pence had worked at Immanuel Christian School for 12 years prior to when she and Vice President Pence began working in the White House.

These so called schools, whomever is making these decisions should be fired and forced to spend a few days in a mental hospital. It's ridiculous for school administrators and teachers to become so political driven, that they would cancel a sporting event due to their special snowflake mind being offended. These people are not only anti free speech, anti freedom, but also Mentally Unstable. They have no business being around our youth, poisoning their minds.
