The thing is people have ad blockers on their computer and the news papers are losing money big time. Besides that, the population is older now that watches the news on the net and they want real news.
Here is the catch, THE ADVERTISERS ARE GETTING LESS ORDERS ON THE NEWS OUTLET THAT PRINT BS NEWS. That is why they are abandoning the main news outlets these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if the truth behind this story is that the government had been paying to advertise with CNN and others. And then stopped.

Paying for advertising is the back door the government often uses to interfere with the press. You know, like those "Be all you can be" military ads? But the other gov't agencies often do it to, and are less obvious about who they are when they do.

The press tends to look with a favorable eye upon its patrons.

If you're breaking trails in deep snows, then you are going to trip and fall on your face, more often than the guys following in your footsteps. I was surprised yesterday when a talking head on Fox News, spouted off with the NASA "bitchpost", anonymous gripes of Airline cabin crews, about the Boeing 737 Max 8, and Max 9's. Seems that the F.A.A. Brass never bothered to look these up. If this is a turf war in progress, then NASA just pulled off a Coup. Is a "you're fired" in the mix for several F.A.A. execs, who blithely assured Trump that these planes were safe, only hours before Canada totally embargoed them from their airspace??
A.J. has to jump in on partial and un-corroborated breaking news. Plus he doesn't stick to just one field of expertise. This means that he cannot smell all of the rats in his broadcasts. So, I take him as a sower of doubts, rather than an accurate and responsible source. Suggestion; think "arm's length" reportage!
