Ural Airlines emergency landing - Passengers say they are ‘suffocating and turning green’

One described it as “some kind of plague” and another claimed sickly passengers had “greatly dilated pupils”.

Fearing mass poisoning on board, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in the southern Russian city of Volgograd.

Doctors and paramedics from five ambulances rushed on board the Airbus A321-211, videos show.

Several passengers were taken for urgent medical treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The plane was thoroughly checked and left again for Dubai after two hours. There has been no official explanation so far for what caused the terrifying symptoms.

Passenger aircraft air circulation system have problems from time to time. It is not clear what caused this yet. It happened while the jet was inflight. Passengers turning green and having dilated pupils is a bad thing, luckily it didn't effect the crew.

Bleed air leaks are nasty and can affect people in different ways. Some see very little effect after multiple exposures, while others get sick enough to require an emergency landing and visit to the hospital after a single exposure.

So begins the zombie apocalypse. I am so ready for it.

low oxygen at the cellular level can cause bluing, if there is some sort of other chemical bothering the liver, then it might make a greenish tint. It could be low oxygen coupled with some kind of gas leaking.

Carbon monoxide from bleed air.

And various zombie viruses.

It's called Aerotoxic Syndrome. Oil used in the engine includes the additive tricresyl phosphate. It's an organophosphate. There have been cases of crews losing their medical certification and never flying again, and one pilot that appears to have died due up complications from repeated exposure to bleed air leaks.
